AlthoughtherearenostatecontrolledsurvivalcoursesinBritainortheUnitedStates,therearevariousindependentorganizationsofferingsimilaractivities.
Studentscanparticipate(takepart)inoutdoortrainingcoursesthroughuniversityclubsandsocieties.Anyonecanregister(登记)withsuchgroups,whichthenorganizecourses,trainingandtripsforallmembers.
OneofthemostpopularoutdoortrainingprogrammesinboththeUSandBritain,isOutwardBound(户外训练).Itwasfoundedin1941inWalesandattractshundredsofthousandsofadventuroustypeseveryyear.
Thecoursesaretobroadenmindsthroughexperiencesthatbuildconfidence,self-esteem(自尊)andcharacter.Aswellasspecialistcoursessuchascanoeing,leadershipskillsandsailing,participantscantakepartinweeklongadventuretrainingcampswhichincludeahostofsportsandsurvivaltrainingeducationskills.
