Pollutedaircontainsfineparticlescreatedbycars,factoriesandnaturaldust.Fineparticlesofthiskindaretiny,about2.5micrometersindiameter,oraboutone-thirtieththewidthofahumanhair.Theseparticlescangodeepintolungsandotherorgans.

Theconcentrationofthisparticulatematerialtowhichtheyexposedmiceisequaltotheconcentrationatwhichpeoplecanbeexposedinsomepollutedurbanareas.

Afteraperiodof10months,theresearchersgottheanimalstohaveaseriesofbehavioraltests.Boththebehaviorofmiceandtheresultsofneurological(神经的)testsdonetothemshowthatthosewithinthepollutedairhadmoreproblemsinlearningandmemory,andhigherlevelsofanxiety.
