Oneday,thelionkingannouncedthathewasgoingtogetmarried,andheinvitedalltheanimalstoattendtheweddingceremony.Sothetortoisethought,“Iamananimal.Ishallattenditaswell.”Thenhesetoutonthejourney.

Onhisway,hemetotheranimals.Theywerestunnedforafewsecondsandthenbegantolaughatthetortoise,saying,“Howsillyyouare!

Theceremonyisstarting.Canyoumakeitasyouwalksolowly?

I’mafraidyoustillcan’tbethereafterthebabylionkingisborn,orgrowuporevenafterhegetsmarried.”Butthetortoisehadmadehismindtogo.

Manyyearspassed,andhefinallygottotheentranceofthelionking’scave.Nowonderthatthelionking’sweddinghadalreadybeenfinishedalongtimeago.However,thetortoisefoundthatthecavewassowell-decoratedandallvarietiesofanimalswerethere.Theytoldthetortoise,“Today,thesonoftheoldlionkingisgoingtogetmarried.”

Howcouldthetortoiseattendthelittlelionking’sweddingpartyifhehadstoppedhalf-way?

Afteraheavyrain,aspiderwasclimbinghardtowardshisbrokennetonthewall.Becausethewallwastoowet,thespiderfelldownafterreachingacertainheight.Buthecontinuouslyclimbedupandfelldownagainandagain.

Thefirstmansawit,sighedheavilyandsaidtohimself,“Mylifeisjustlikethatspider’s;busyallthetimebutgettingnothing?

”Hebecameincreasinglydepressed.

Thesecondmansawitandsaid,“Whatastupidspider.Whydoesn’titmakeadetourtoadrierplace?

I’dneverbethatstupid.”Sohebecamesmarter.

Thethirdmansawit.Hewasquitemovedbythespider’sperseveranceandsaidtohimself,“Iwon’tletalittlespiderbestrongerandmorepersistentthanme.I’lllearnfromhisexampleandbecomestronger,”andhedid.

Therewasayoungflowerinthedesertwhereallwasdryandsadlooking.Itwasgrowingbyitself,enjoyingeverydayandsayingtothesun,“WhenshallIbegrownup?

”Andthesunwouldsay,“Bepatient!

EachtimeItouchyou,andyouwillgrowalittle.”Shewassopleasedbecauseshewouldhaveachancetobringbeautytothiscornerofsand.Andthisisallshewantedtodo----bringalittlebitofbeautytothisworld.

Butonedayahuntercamebyandsteppedontheflower.Shewasgoingtodieandshefeltsosad.Notbecauseshewasdying,butbecauseshewouldneverhaveachancetobringalittlebitofbeautytothiscornerofthedesert.

TheGreatSpiritsawher,thinkingthatsheshouldbeliving.Sohereacheddownandtouchedher----andgaveherasecondlife.

Finallyshegrewuptobeabeautifulflower.Andthiscornerofthedesertalsobecamesobeautifulbecauseofthesmallflower.

Soonafterherlittlebrotherwasborn,Sachibegantoaskherparentstoleaveheralonewiththenewbaby.Theyworriedthatlikemostfour-year-olds,shemightfeeljealousandwanttohurt(hitorshake)him,sotheysaidno.Butshetriedeveryefforttoshowshewouldn’thurthim.(Buttheyfoundherhavenosignofjealousy.)Shetreatedthebabywithkindness,andherpleastobeleftalonewithhimbecamemoreurgent.Afteralongtimeofobservation,herparentsfinallyallowedit.

Elated,shewentintothebaby’sroomandshutthedoor,butitopenedacrack----enoughforhercuriousparentstopeekinandlisten.TheysawlittleSachiwalkquietlyuptoherbabybrother,putherfaceclosetohisandsayquietly,“Baby,tellmewhatGodfeelslike.I’mstartingtoforget.”

TherearethreebrotherswhoallhavedoctordegreesandworkforNASA.Onedayafterfinishingdinnerintheirmother’shome,againtheystarteddiscussingtheprojectoflandingonthemoonandestablishingthespacestation.

Oneofthedaughters-in-lawwashingdishesinthekitchencomplained,“Theythreediscussthoseunimaginablethingsallthetime,whichmakesusfoolishcomparedwiththem.”

Puzzled,thecustomerasked,“Howcanyouknowitwillbetheweatheryoulike?

Thewaitersaid,“Ifindthatthesurroundingscannotalwaysgowithmymind.SoIlearntofaceeverythingthatIencounterjoyfully.ThentheweathertomorrowmustbetheonethatIenjoy.”

ThentherecametheFrenchman.Hewasseentoholdachildinhisarms.Thebeautifulladywasfollowedbyonechild,too,perceivingthethirdone.

ThelastcomingonewastheJewish.Heheldthewarden’shandtightlyandsaid,“Thankstothetelephone.Ihavebeenkeepingcontactwiththeoutsidesocietythesethreeyears.Mybusinessdidn’tstop,buthasincreasedby200%.SoI’llsendyouaRolls-Royceasagifttoshowmythankfulness.”

Onedayacrowstoodonabranchnearhisnestandfeltveryhappywiththemeatinhismouth.Atthattime,afoxsawthecrowwiththemeat,soheswallowedandeagerlythoughtofaplantogetthemeat.However,whateverthefoxsaidtothecrow,thecrowjustkeptsilent.Untilthefoxthoughthighlyofthecrow’sbeautifulvoice,thecrowfeltflatteredandopenedhismouthtosing.Assoonasthemeatfelldowntotheground,thefoxtookthemeatandwentintohishole.

Therewasalittlemousestayingathomeallday.Itdarednottogoout,evenatnight.“Thecatissuchaterribleanimal.He’lleatme.”italwayssaid,withashudderofhorror.

Godsympathizedwiththelittlemouseverymuch,soheturneditintoacat.

Butthecatwhichwaspreviouslyamouseturnedouttobeafraidofdogs.

“Dogsalwaysappearfiendish.WhatcanIdoifIhappentoencounterhim?

SoGodturneditintoadog.Butitthenbegantobescaredoftigers.Andtryinghisbest,Godturneditintoatiger.

Tohissurprise,againthetigersaidwithitslegsshaking,“Thehunter’sguncankillmeatanytime.”

Atlast,Godwassoangrythatheturneditbacktoamouse.Hesaid,“You’reamouseafterall.EvenifIturnedyouintoahunter,youwouldbeinfearofmice.Icannothelpyoubecauseyouonlyhaveamouse’sgut.”

Oneofthemostdifficultthingstoacceptaboutlifeisthefactthatsufferingisapartofit.Peopledie,getsick,hurteachotherandhurtthemselves.OneofthemostimportantlessonsIhavelearnedisthatitisveryimportanttoacceptthebadwiththegood,thelightwiththedarkandthepainwiththejoy.IhavelearnedthatwithoutpainIwouldn’tknowjoy.Ihavelearnedthatbecauseofthingslikeillnessanddeathitisthatmuchmoreimportanttoloveandlivelifetothefullest.Greatlessonsarelearnedfromterribletragedies,tremendousgrowthtakesplacewhenwearepushedtoourverylimits,andalthoughIdon’tnecessarilylikethe“toughstuff”Iamlearningtolivewithit.

AvaryingharenamedClaraandhisfamilylivedinthenorthernpartofAmericawherewassnowymostofthetimeandwaslackoffood.

Claradidn’twanttolivethiskindoflifeanymore.Soalthoughhisrelativesurgedhimtostay,heresolutelysetoffforimmigration

Aftermonthsoftrek,theopengrasslandwhichgrewallkindsofgrassfinallyappearedrightbeforeClara.ThisdefinitelyexcitedClara.Butrightatthattime,Clarasuddenlyfeltsomethingwrong.Helookedupalertlybutonlyfoundashadowdivingsharplytowardhim.“Aneagle!
