2.2.1AppearanceofAmericanBobos
AccordingtoSongLei’sarticle(2002:

In1960s,somepeoplebelievedinUtopiaandobjectedtowars.Theyadvocatedpacifismandemphasizedhumandignity,personalityandfreedom;theydidnotcompromisetothesocialrules.Althoughtheirbehaviorsweresometimesirrational,theyhadbecomethesignofthatage.Theyformedagroupcalled“Hippies”,inotherwords,theywereAmericanwith“Bohemians”characteristics.
In1980s,somepeopleinmiddle-agedbegan“Yuppie”movements.Theywerewell-educated,well-paidandpursueahighsocialstatus.InAmerica,traditionally,materialwealthhasbeenacceptedasameasureofsocialstatus(MaoWenting,CuiXiaoling,2009:

2.2.2AppearanceofChineseMoonlites
ChinaexperiencedrapiddevelopmentsinceChina’sReformationandOpeningtotheWorld,andpeople’slivingstandardhasbeengreatlyimproved.
Nowadays,people’sconsumptionconcepthaschanged,so“excessiveconsumption”and“humanconsumption”arenotnewwordsforChinesepeople,especiallyforyoungpeople.Today’scollegestudentshavemanyproblemswiththeirconsumingbehaviors,suchasunreasonableconsumingpatterns,blindconsumption,emotionalconsumptionandsoon(YuanWeiqiang,YuTao,2012:
289).Theseconsumptionhabitsleadthemtobeconsumerists.Therefore,afterleavingcampus,iftheycannotbeawareoftheimportanceofsavingmoneyandconquerthebadconsumptionhabits,theywillstillpracticeconsumerismandbecome“Moonlites”.
Besides,modernleisureisdifferentfromtraditionalleisure.Modernleisureleadsyoungpeopletorelaxthemselvesbyconsumingformeetingtheirmaterialsatisfactioninsteadofenjoyingtheirspiritualcontent(ZhaoRuihua,2011:
57).Therefore,leisurebecomes“happinesswebuy”,andconsumptionbecomesavitalpartinyoungpeople’slife.
Becauseofthechangeofconsumptionconceptandleisureways,youngpeople“haveto”spendtheirmoneytomeettheirneeds;additionally,theydonothaveanysavingawareness.So,theybecome“Moonlites”.
