Ialwayswantedtogotocollege,eventhoughnooneinmyfamilyhadeverdoneitandtherewasnomoneyfortuition.

Myparentsencouragedmetoattendthestateschoolthatacceptedme.Thiswouldmeanheavydebtforallofus,buttheywantedmetoearnacollegedegree.IwentthereinJuly,butspenttheentirethreedayswithastrongfeelingthatitwasnotwhereIwassupposedtobe.Theschoolwashugeandtheexperienceimpersonal.

Iwenthomeandtoldmyfatheraboutmynewwishes.Hewasspeechless.Hesatwithhisheadinhishands,notbelievingwhatIwasproposingnow.Afteralongwhilemyfathertoldmehewouldinquireaboutanapplicationattheschool.

WhatIdidnotknowwasthatmyfatherhadgonetothepresidentofthecollegehimself.Myfatherhadpaintedhishouse.HewenttoaskthepresidentnotonlyifIstoodachanceofbeingaccepted,butifhemighthonoralltheyearsmyfatherhadworkedonthecollegeandtreathimlikeanactualemployeeinthisoneinstance.

Thiswasaverymeaningfulrequest,sincecollegeemployeeswereallowedtohavetheirchildren’stuitionwaived(免除).

WhenmyfathercamehomewithnotonlythenewsthatIhadbeenaccepted,butIwasgoingtogotoschoolatnocharge.Icouldn’tbelieveit.

Alltheseyearslater,Istillhavenoideawhythatmanchosetobestow(授予)suchtremendouskindnessonmyfamilyandme.TheysayGodputsitonourheartstodogooddeedsforeachother.Perhapsitwaslikethatforhim.AllIknowisthatifIhadn’tlistenedtomyheartonthatothercollegecampus,Iwouldhavemissedoutonthegreatestblessingofmylife.

ConsumerelectronicscompanyViziorecentlyagreedtopayUSregulatorsUS$2.2million,afterfailingtogetappropriatepermissionfromuserstotracktheirTVviewinghabits.

Latelastyear,theNorwegianConsumerCouncilfoundthatachildren’sdollrecordedanythingsaidtoitbychildrenandsenttherecordingstoaUScompany.Thecompanyreservedtherighttoshareandusethedataforabroadrangeofpurposes.

IoTdeviceshavethepotentialtocollectmoreprivatedataaboutindividualsthanwaspossiblewithpreviousdevices.Allthisdatacanthenbeusedtostudyconsumers,predictourbehavior,andsellusproductsattimeswhenourwillpowerislowest.Somecompaniesarecurrentlyusingtechnologytotrackconsumersthroughstoresandsendtheirmessagestomobilephones.Thismaybelinkedtoourpurchasehistory.
