AliceWalkerisaveryfamousAfro-Americanwomanwriter.SheisoneofthemostimportantblackwomanwritersinthecontemporaryAmericanliterature.HermasterpieceTheColorPurplecausesthecritics’attentionduetohernewconceptionanduniquetechniques.Afteritspublicationin1982,thenovelimmediatelybecomesthebestsellerintheUnitedStates.In1983,itwinsboththePulitzerPrizeandtheAmericanBookAward.In1984,itisadaptedforfilmbyStevenSpielberg.AliceWalkerbecomesthefirstPulitzerPrizewinneramongtheAmericanblackwomanwriters.
AliceWalkerisborninEatonton,GeorgiaonFebruary9,1944.Ablackchildbornintopoverty,Walkerstartsherlifewithmanydisadvantages.HerfamilylivesassharecroppersintheDeepSouth.Attheageofeight,WalkerloseseyesightinoneofhereyeswhenanelderbrotheraccidentallyshootsherwithaBBgun.Herchildhoodistypicallikeotherwomenofhertime;
