MicrosoftPowerBIforOffice365enablesSelf-serviceBusinessIntelligenceforallyourdata.WithPowerBI,yougetcompleteself-serviceBIforyouron-premisesandcloud-baseddatabyusingthenewdatadiscoveryandanalysisfeaturesinExcelwiththecollaborationcapabilitiesinthenewPowerBIforOffice365onlineservice.

ToadministerPowerBI,youusethePowerBIAdminCenter.BeforeyoucanstartusingtheAdminCenter,youneedtoprovisionaPowerBIlicense.GettingaPowerBIlicenseup-and-runningiseasytakingjusttwostepstoprovisionPowerBIandaddusers.

Provisionanewtenant

1.UsingyourMicrosoftPowerBIforOffice365promotioncodeURL,navigatetothePowerBIaccountsetuppage.YourpromotioncodeURLresembles:

IDCode}

2.Inthestartyourfreetrialpage,enterrequiredaccountinformation.AfteryousetupyourOffice365account,yourUserIDistheAdminIDandyourdomainisthenameofyourpreviewtenant.

NOTE:

signintoaddthissubscriptiontoyourcurrentaccountisnotcurrentlysupportedforthePowerBIpreview.

3.IntheDon'tloseaccesstoyouraccountpage,enteryourMobilephonenumber,andclickSendtextmessageand/orSaveandcontinue.Thispageconfiguresaccesstoyouraccountifyouloseyourpassword.

4.TheOffice365admincenterpagedisplaysprogressonprovisioningtheservices.OncethecurrenthealthstatusforyourOffice365accountstatesNoissues,PowerBIisprovisionedfortheorganization.

5.AftertheSharePointservicesareprovisionedforaMicrosoftOffice365PlanE3service,setupuserlicenses.Intheadminshortcutspane,clickAssignuserlicenses.

6.Intheuserandgroupspage,clickyouradministratorprofile.

7.IntheAssignlicensespage,selecttheMicrosoftPowerBIforOffice365licenseandMicrosoftOffice365PlanE3license.IntheMicrosoftOffice365PlanE3licensegroup,deselecttheSharePointPlan2options;otherwise,youwillreceiveasaveerror.Clicksave.

8.IntheadministersettingsAssignrolepage,updateyouralternateemailaddressandsetyouruserlocation.Clicksave.

9.ToreturntoyourOffice365admincenterdashboard,intheleftnavigationpane,clickdashboard.

10.TogettotheSharePointsitetoinstallPowerBI,clickSitesintheupperrightcornerofthedashboardpage.IfyouseetheWe’realmostreadypage,yourSharePointsiteisprovisionedbutnotyetsetup.Youmightneedtowait10to15minutesforsitesetuptocomplete.

11.Inthenewsitepage,clicktheTeamSitetile.

12.Intheleftnavigationpane,clickSiteContents.

13.IntheSiteContentspage,clickthePowerBItile.

14.AfteryouclickthePowerBIapptile,youcanclickAddsamplesdatatolearnabouttherichvisualizationsandinsightsyoucancreatewithPowerBI.

Assignalicensetootherusers

UponsuccessfulprovisioningofyourPowerBItenant,oneofthefirstthingsyoushoulddoisassigntheappropriatelicensetoyourusers.Ifyouhavejustcompletedtheprovisioningprocess,youshouldalreadybeintheOffice365admincenter.Youcanalsonavigatetheredirectlyvia

1.IntheOffice365admincenter,clickusersandgroupsfromtheleftpane.

2.Clickthe+（Add）icon.

NOTEClickausernametomodifyanexistinguser.

3.Intheusermanagementdetailspage,enterthenewuserinformation.

4.Inthesettingspage,enterusersettingsincludingwhethertheuserhasadministratorpermissions,andtheuser’sgeographiclocation.

5.Inthelicensespage,checktheMicrosoftPowerBIforOffice365boxandmakesuretheotherthreeboxesareautomaticallychecked.Ifnot,checkthemmanually.ThiswillassigntheappropriatePowerBIlicensetotheuserinyourtenant.

NOTEIftheboxeshavealreadybeencheckedwhenyouarriveatthispagethatmeansthisuserhasalreadybeenassignedthenecessarylicenses.Inthatcasenofurtheractionisrequired.Youmayclickcanceltoexitandreturntothepreviouspage.

6.Foranexistinguser,clicksavewhendone.

7.Inthesendresultspage,clickCreatetosendtheresultsofcreatingtheusertotheadministrator,anduptofiveotherrecipients.

8.Intheresultspage,clickfinishtoaddthenewuser.

Youcannotaddadditionalservices/subscriptionstoatenantbecauseitisrestrictedforPowerBIpreviewonly.

YounavigatetothePowerBIsiteportalfromtheOffice365admincenter.

1.NavigatetoandloginusingyourPowerBIusernameandpassword.

2.ClickSitesattheupperleftcorner.

3.ClicktheTeamSitetile.

4.ClickSiteContents.

oPowerBIshouldbeautomaticallyinstalledforalltenantsthatsubscribetotheMicrosoftPowerBIforOffice365Preview.Pleasenotethatthetenantinstallationprocesstakesabout10minutes.IfyoudonotseeaPowerBItile,gotoHowtoinstallPowerBI.

5.IfyouseeaPowerBItile,clickthePowerBItile.

ThenexttimeyouusePowerBI,youcannavigatetoPowerBIfromtheleftSharePointOnlinenavigationpane.

HowtomanuallyinstallPowerBI

TomanuallyinstallPowerBIonatenantscope,youmustbeaTenantAdmin.

1.NavigatetoandloginusingyourPowerBITenantAdminusernameandpassword.

2.IntheO365menu,clickAdmin>Sharepoint.

3.IntheSharePointadmincenterpagesitecollectionspane,clickappsandAppCatalog.

4.Foranewtenant,youcreateanAppCatalog:

a.IntheAppCatalogSitepage,selectCreateanewappcatalogsite,andclickOK.

b.IntheCreateAppCatalogSiteColllectionpage,enteryourappcatalogproperties,andclickOK.TheminiumStorageQuotais100MB.

c.TheSharePointadmincenterpagedisplaysPowerBIprovisioningstatus.Afteryourappcatalogisprovisioned,youcanviewsitecollectionproperties.Toviewsitecollectionproperties,clickonyournewsitecollection.

d.NavigatetoyournewappcatalogsiteusingtheurlintheSiteCollectionslist.Theappcatalogsiteisacentralsitetothetenantthatenablesyoutodeploytheapponceandhaveitappearinallsitesinthattenant.

5.Installtheappcatalogsite:

a.ClickSiteContents.

Important

IfyounoticethatthereisafailedinstallationofthePowerBIapplication,pleaseclickRemoveinthePowerBIflyout.

b.Clickaddanapptile.

c.Intheleftnavigationpane,clickSharePointStore.

e.IntheFindanappbox,searchfor“PowerBI”.

f.ClickthePowerBItile.

g.InthePowerBIapppage,clickADDIT.FollowtheaddPowerBIappsteps.

h.IntheSharePointMarketplacepage,enteryourMicrosoftaccountsignin,suchasaLiveID,andclickSignin.

i.IntheConfirmthatyouwishtoaddtheapp,clickContinue,andclickReturntosite.

j.IntheDoyoutrustPowerBIpage,clickTrustIt.

6.DeployyournewPowerBIappfortheentiretenant.

a.InthePowerBIflyout,clickDeployment.

b.IntheManageAppDeploymentspageintheAvailablemanagedpathslist,select（AllPaths）andclickAddtoadd（AllPaths）totheManagedpathstodeploytolist.

c.ClickOK.

d.IntheDoyoutrustPowerBIpage,clickTrustit.

7.ThePowerBIapplicationisinstalledonthesite,clickthePowerBItiletostarttheapp.

8.AfteryouclickthePowerBIapptile,youcanclickAddsamplesdatatolearnabouttherichvisualizationsandinsightsyoucancreatewithPowerBI.

ThenexttimeyouusePowerBI,youcannavigatetoPowerBIfromtheleftSharePointOnlinenavigationpane.

IntroductiontoPowerBIAdminCenter

UsingthePowerBIAdminCenter,youcancontrolsecurityandaccesstocertainon-premisesdatasourcesbyallowingauthorizeduserstosetupDataManagementGateways,andtoregistertheseon-premisesdatasources,andtoexposethemasdatafeeds.Optionally,youcanpublishcomplexdatathatrequireadvanceddatatransformationandjoinsusingSQLServerIntegrationServices（SSIS）packagesasdatafeeds.BusinessuserscanthenconnecttothesedatafeedsusingPowerQuery,thereby;makingthesedatasourcesavailableinthesystem.

OnlymembersofthePowerBIAdministratorsgroupcanaccessthePowerBIAdminCenter.Youarealreadyamemberofthisgroup.YoucanaddanyotheruserstothisgroupusingtherolemanagementtaboftheAdminCenter.
