ThenumberonemythisthattheeducationabroadexperienceisnotforBlackstudents,especiallyinthetraditionalEuropeanstudysites.TheassumptionisthatEuropeanracismissooverwhelmingthatBlackstudentswouldbebetteroffremainingintheirowncountry,wheretheyunderstandthepoliticsofracismandcanmakethenecessaryadjustments.BlackstudentswhotravelabroadareinfactshockedwhentheyaretreatedasAmericansfirstandasintelligentstudentswhohaveearnedtherighttobestudyinginthehostcountry.AfricanAmericanstudentsshouldnotfeartravelingabroadbecauseofracism.
