DETAILEDDESCRIPTIONOFTHE
INVENTION
ReferringtoFIGS.1-3ofthedrawing,thereisshownanintegrallymoldedmodulewhichismatedwithlikemodulestoformascrewconveyorofintendedlength.Themoduleismoldedofasuitableplasticmaterialsuchaspolyethylene,polypropyleneorpolyurethaneandhasintegrallyformedtherewithallessentialconstituentsofthescrewconveyor.Themoduleincludesabodyoftubularconfigurationhavingontheendsthereofcirculargrooves12and16,respectively,foraccommodationofanO-ringsealbetweenmatedmodules.Atube16iscoaxiallydisposedwithinbody10andhavinganopening18extendingtherethrough,withaweb20helicallydisposedbetweentheinnersurfaceofbody10andoutersurfaceoftube16.Thetube16includesontherespectiveendsthereofcirculargrooves517foraccommodationofanO-ringseal.Theweb20isslightlylessthanonehelicalpitchlengthterminatinginrespectiveends22and24whichincluderadicallyparallelsurfaces26adaptedtoconfrontcorrespondingsurfacesoflikemodules.Thus,thesurface26ofhelixend1022isadaptedtoconfronttheoppositelyfacingedgeofend24ofanadjacentmodule.Thewebendsextendoutwardoftheconfrontingendsofbody10typicallybyapproximately1/2thewallthicknessoftheweb,asillustrated.Byhavingthelengthofthehelicalweb15slightlylessthanthehelicalpitchitispossibletoinjectionmoldthemodulebyconventionalmoldingtechniquessinceasseenfromFIG.2thetwohalvesofaninjectionmoldcanopenaxiallyofthemodulewhich,becauseitshelicallengthisslightlylessthanonehelicalpitch,presentsnoundercutstothemoldhalves.Typically,theweblengthisaboutonepercentlessthanthepitchlengthtoprovidesufficientclearanceformoldtooling.
AnembodimentsimilartothatofFIGS.1-3isshowninFIGS.4-6andincludesasheaveintegrallymoldedwiththeconveyormodule.Thesheaveisprovidedaroundthebodycentrallydisposedbetweentherespectiveendsofthebody,thesheavebeingcomposedofalternatingsegments.Afirstarrayofsegmentsisdisposedaroundthebodyinspacedcircumferentialarrangement.Asecondarrayofsegmentsisaxiallyspacedfromthesegmentsandiscircumferentiallydisposedaboutbodyinspacedpositionstaggeredfromthepositionofthesegments,asillustrated.TheconfrontingsurfacesandofrespectivesegmentsanddefineaV-groove,bestseeninFIG.6,configuredtomatewithaV-beltofanexteriordrive.ThemoduleisotherwisethesameasdescribedabovewithrespecttoFIGS.1-3.ThestaggeredarrangementofthesegmentsandallowinjectionmoldingbyconventionalinjectionmoldingtechniquessincethestaggeredarrangementasseenfromFIGS.4-5permitsthemoldhalvestoopenaxiallyofthemoduleandpresentsnoundercutstothemoldhalves.
ThemoduleofFIGS.1-3isaxiallymatedwithlikemodules,asshowninFIG.7,toformaconveyorofdesiredlength.EachofthemodulesisalignedwiththeendsofadjacentbodiesinengagementwithaninterposedO-ring,andwiththeendsofadjacenttubesinengagementwithaninterposedO-ring.Thehelicalwebshavetheiredgesconfrontingtoprovideaneffectivelycontinuoushelicalscrewdisposedwithinthecontinuoustubularbodyformedbythematedmodules.Sincethewebisslightlylessthanonehelicalpitchlength,smallspacesexistbetweentheconfrontin
