MostpeoplearenotfamiliarwiththeRingelmannEffectwhichisthetendencyforindividualmemberstobecomelessproductiveasthesizeofagroupincreases.ThisconceptwasnamedafterMaximilienRingelmann,aFrenchprofessorofagriculturalengineeringwhopassedawayin1931.Inoneofhisexperimentsheaskedvolunteerstoperformaverysimpletask,topullonarope.Hefoundthatwhenonlyonepersonispullingontheropetheygive100%oftheireffort;

however,asmorepeopleareaddedtheindividualeffortgoesdown.
