Thenovelreferstomanyaspects,suchaslove,family,friendship,andeventhewar,whichreflectinghowmajoreventstakeimpactonordinarypeople.Theauthoranalyzespeople’sgrowthpathanddialyzesthefrailtyandfirmnessofhuman.

Thenovelusesthefirstpersoninnarration.TheheroiscalledJohn.Hismotherlefthimwhenhewasstillababy.Hisfatherworkedinapostofficewhowasamanofroutineandlackedsocialcommunicationabilityandwhoseonlyenthusiasmwascollectingcoins.Johncouldn’tunderstandwhyhisfatherwassuchamanofsilenceand,tosomeextent,wasaweirdone,whichwasactuallycausedbyadisordercalledAsperger’s.SoJohnfeltlifetediousandpaleandhealwaystriedtodoanythingexciting,suchasdrinkingandcuttingclass.However,thedayswentroundandround.Hefelttiredofhislifeandwantedtomakeachange.Sohejoinedthearmy.MilitarylifechangedJohn.Henolongerdrankandhadaroutinelife.Whenhewentbackhomeonvacation,hemetSavannah,agirlfullofinnocence,vigorandlove.Hefellinlovewithheratthefirstsight.AndSavannahlovedhim,too.Thelovebetweenthembecamestrongerateverymoment.“Shehadonearmacrossherchestandanotheraboveherhead,andIcouldthinkwasthatIwouldliketospendeverymorningfortherestoflifewakingupbesideher.”AndwhenJohnwasleavingforthefirsttime,Savannahsaid“Iwon’tbeabletoseeyoursillyexpressions.Wewon’tbeabletolieonthebeachtogetherandstareatthestars.Wewon’tbeabletositacrossfromeachotherandtalkandsharesecrets.AndIwon’tfeelyourarmaroundme,likeIdonow.”Howsweet!
