OutdoorSurvival(生存)ProvidesAdventureWorldwide

AlthoughtherearenostatecontrolledsurvivalcoursesinBritainortheUnitedStates,therearevariousindependentorganisationsofferingsimilaractivities.

Studentscantakepartinoutdoortrainingcoursesthroughuniversityclubsandsocieties.Anyonecanregisterwithsuchgroups,whichthenorganisecourses,trainingandtripsforallmembers.

OneofthemostpopularoutdoortrainingprogrammesinboththeUSandBritain,isOutwardBound(户外训练).Itwasfoundedin1941inWalesandattractshundredsofthousandsofadventuroustypeseveryyear.

Thecoursesareintendedtobroadenmindsthroughexperiencesthatbuildconfidence,self-esteem(自尊)andcharacter.Aswellasspecialistcoursessuchascanoeing,leadershipskillsandsailing,participantscantakepartinweeklongadventuretrainingcampswhichincludeahostofsportsandsurvivaltrainingeducationskills.

MichaelWilliams,anAmericanstudent,tookpartinanOutwardBoundcourselastyear.Hesaid:

“Welearnedlotsoffirstaidskills,lotsofnaturalhistory,lotsofenvironmentalfacts,andtookpartinawildlifepreservationprogramme.Beyondthat,myfavouriteskillslearnedweresailingandrockclimbing.”

Coursescanlastupto40daysandareopentoanyoneovertheageof14.Studentsmustbeingeneralgoodhealth,butdonotneedtobeexperiencedinoutdoorsports.Thereisnoselectionprocess;
