Intheyear1983,MotherTeresasufferedfromaseriousheartattack,whileshewasinRome.However,sherecovered.But,laterin1989,sheagaingotanattack.Herhealthwentworseandintheyear1991,shesufferedfrompneumonia.Takingherhealthproblemsintoconsideration,MotherTeresadecidedtoresign（辞职）fromthepostofheadoftheorder.
