Englishbooksareveryinterestingandfullofcharacteristicsofchildren,likeLet’splay,Let’sdo,Let’schant,Let’ssingetc.Theteachershouldbefriendofstudents,youshouldsingwiththem,playwiththemasapersonwiththesameageofthem.Whenperformingdialogues,teachercanplaywithstudentsasarole.Inpartlet’ssingteacheralwayssingingandplayingtogetherwithstudents,astimepasses,thechildrenwillmaketheteacherasafriendofthem,it’sgoodforteaching.

WhatisBodyLanguage?

Bodylanguageisanimportantchanneltoexpresstheattitudesandfeelingsofhumanbeings.BodyLanguageinEnglishteachingcanbeexpressedfromthefourpartsofEyesight,Countenance,GestureandManner.

Eyecontactisthemostimportantoneofall.Aseveryoneknows,eyeisthe“window“ofsomeone’sheart.Wecanknowwhathedoubts,howhelovesorhates.Whentheteacherfindssomeoneisabsent-mindedordoesanythingelse,hecanstillhavehisclass;hecanalsogivethestudentkindlyeyesighttoattracthisattention.Evenwhensomeoneislateforclass,teacherscanusetheeyesighttohintthathecancomeintotheclassroom,inordertoavoiddispersingtheotherstudents’attention.

Gesturescanhelpusreinforcetheverbalmessage.Forexample,theteachersays,“Ihavethreemajorpointstotalkabouttoday,“whileholdingupthreefingers.Studentswillunderstandhismeaning.Inshort;anaccurateandmoderategesturecannotonlytransmitthethoughtbutalsostrengthentheinfluenceofteachers’verballanguage.Inaword,thevividgesturetogetherwiththefluentEnglishcancreateagoodcircumstanceoflearning,whichwillsurelyplayanactivepartinimprovingthestudents'studyability.

Countenanceisthewholeshowingscreenofpeople’smind,thoughtandnerve.Allthepleasure,anger,anxiety,think,sorrowandfearofapersoncanbereflectedoutfromthecountenance.Ourfacesplayakeyroleinexpressingourthoughts,andespeciallyouremotionsandattitudes.Therefore,teachershouldaimatthedifferentcircumstanceappearedintheEnglishteachingclassroom,beinggoodattalkingandperformingwiththeface.Takeitforexample;theauthorhasevermettwoteacherswhohadtheentirelydifferentcountenancewhenhavingtheirclasses.Foroneteacher,hisstudentsalwaysexpecttohavehislessons.Whenhehashisclass,heisunlikeateacherbutresemblestobeanexperiencedexcellentactor.Whenspeakingsomethinginteresting,hiscountenanceseemstobepleased;whenspeakingsomethingsad,hewillexpressthesadnesscountenance;whenmeetingsomeproblem,hewillfrown;whenithasbeensolved,hewillbeexuberant.Inaword,thestudentsaredeeplyattractedbyhisvividandperfectcountenance.Onthecontrary,anotherteacheralwaysgoesstraighttothetopic.Nomattershehaswhatkindsofcontents,shejuststandsontheplatformwithasterncountenanceallthetime,butthestudentsareallabsent-minded.Withsuchteachingatmosphere,wecanimaginetheteachingeffectiscertainlybad.Tocommunicateinterestintheirlisteners,teachersshouldnotewhethertheyareallowingthefacestohelpcommunicatetheemotionaltoneoftheirthoughts.

Atpresenttime,withtheEnglishteachingmethodsreform,moreandmoreEnglishteachersorganizetheteachingactivitiesinEnglishsothattheymayrealizetheCommunicativeEnglish.TheCommunicatedEnglishmeansthatteachersinstructthestudentsandexplainquestionsbasicallyinEnglish,andthestudentsarealsorequiredtouseEnglishinclass.Togetridofthestudents'feelingsofbeingdullandtiring,anEnglishteacherhastouseeverypossiblemethod.Forexample,whenateachersays“standup,please”,hecansayasopenupthepalmlightly;whilespeaking“sitdown,please”,hecanusetheoppositeway,spreadingoutthehandandpressingdownwardtoshowthemthecontrarymeaning.Ifthestudent’svoiceistoosmalltohearclearly,teachermaysay”speakitloudly,please”andholdhishandbehindtheearatthesametimeastolistentohim.Andiftheteacherwantstwostudentstomakeapracticetogether,hecanjustspreadouttwofingersandsay“inpairs”.Ofcourse,theteachershouldnodhisheadwhensaying“yes”andshakewhensaying“no”toletthestudentsfeelhimteacherjustliketheconductorandguidethemtostudybyusingbodylanguage.Timebytime,thestudents'interestinlearningEnglishhasbeenraisedalot.LearningEnglishbecomesanenjoymenttothem.Thisactionwillusuallygivethestudentsadeepimpression.

Bodylanguagecommunicatesmoreaboutyouthananywordsyousay.Withoutbodylanguage,theclassroomwouldbestaticandcolorless.Bodylanguagecommunicatesaseffectivelyaswords,maybeevenmoreeffectively.Bodylanguagetransferideasorthoughtsbycertainaction.Anodmeansapproval,whileshakingtheheadindicatesanegativereaction.ThumbandforefingermakingacirclemeansOK;directeyecontactmeans“showsattentivenessandlistening”;cuptheearmeans“Icannothearyou”.

 Tosumup,goodbodylanguagecanreflecttheteachers'temperament,Theuseofbodylanguagecannotonlyattractthestudents'attention,butalsodeepentheirimpressionandimagination.SoteachersshouldtrytoteachinEnglishfromthebeginningtotheend,togetherwiththecorrespondingbodylanguage.Intheend,thestudents'abilityofEnglishwillbecertainlyandgreatlyimproved.
