●Theimportanceofinsurance:

Insuranceisverycloselyrelatedtoforeigntrade.Peopleintheinternationaltradeshouldhaveathoroughknowledgeofitandtheabilitytohandleitsproblems.Insurancewasoriginallyappliedtolossesatsea,whereriskswerealwaysgreat,butitisnotprovidedtocover（投保）almostanykindofoccurrence（不幸事件）thatmayresultinloss.Asalargepercentageofourtradeinandoutofthiscountrygoesbyship,whatmainlyconcernsusisstilltheMarineInsurance.（海运险，水险）

coverage（n）（c.n）承保险别（总称），保险范围；（u.n）投保额；保险

5.claim（n）.索赔，赔偿要求

表示索赔的原因，一般接介词for,如claimfordamage;claimforshortdelivery短装而索赔

表示索赔的金额，一般接介词for,如claimforUS$10,000

表示对某批货物索赔，一般接介词on,如claimonthegoods;

表示向某人索赔，一般接介词against,如claimagainsttheunderwriters.

为某事向某人提出索赔的常用句型是：

lodgeaclaimagainst（间用with或on或upon）sbforsth

lodgeaclaimon/upon（goods,cargo,shipment）for（damageorloss;shortage;qualityandamount,value）

说“提出”索赔，除lodge外，较常用的动词还有raise,file和putin,此外，还可以用make,issue,lay,register,render,enter,bringup,setup等。

a.WeshalllodgeaclaimagainsttheInsuranceCompanyforthegoodsdamagedduringtransit.

对于货物在运输途中损坏，我们将向保险公司提出索赔。

b.Wefileaclaimagainstyoufortheshortdeliveryof145lbs.我们向你方提出短交145磅的索赔。

claim和其他动词搭配的部分常见短语：

acceptaclaim同意索赔admitaclaim同意索赔entertainaclaim受理索赔

dismissaclaim驳回索赔rejectaclaim拒绝索赔relinquishaclaim撤回索赔

settleaclaim解决索赔（理赔）waiveaclaim放弃索赔withdrawaclaim撤回索赔

claim（v）.索赔，要求赔偿

通常作及物动词，宾语为索赔的金额或compensation,amount,sum,allowance等名词，间或作不及物动词。

部分常用短语如下，注意介词的一般用法：

toclaimUS$10,000索赔美圆一万元

toclaimacompensationofUS$10,000要求赔偿美圆一万元

toclaimUS$10,000fordamage因损坏而索赔美圆一万元

toclaimUS$10,000onthegoods对该货索赔美圆一万元

toclaimUS$10,000fromtheunderwriters向保险公司索赔美圆一万元

claim:

vttoclaim（acompensationof）…fromsbforsth为某事向某人索赔若干金额

a.Ourclientsclaimanallowanceofatleast50centsperyard.Failingthis,theywillreshipthegoodsbacktous.客户要求每码至少折价50美分，否则他们便会将货物运回我处。

b.Wereservetherighttoclaimcompensationfromyouforanydamage.我们保留对任何破损向你方索赔得权利。

c.Thebuyerclaimsasumfromthesellerforinsufficientofquantityoncottonpiecegoods.因棉布数量不足向卖方索赔一笔款项。

claim:

a.Thisdamagewasduetotheroughhandlingbytheshippingcompany.Youshouldclaimonthemforrecoveryoftheloss.（claimon:

要求索赔）

损坏系轮船公司野蛮搬运所致。

你们应向他们提出索赔以挽回损失。

6.insure（v.）保险,给…投保

注意：

说明投保的不同情况时，要求使用不同的介词。

①insureW.P.A.（F.P.A.,againstAllRisks…）for（at）…（amount）按…金额投保…

WegenerallyinsureWPAonCIFsales.按CIF价出售的货物，我们一般投保水渍险。

注意：

平安险和水渍险两个险别，在表示投保时，前面不再用介词against.

PleaseinsureagainstAllRisksfor10%over（above）thetotalinvoicevalue.请按发票总金额的110%投保一切险。

WehaveinsuredW.P.A.andagainstWarRiskat110%oftheinvoicecost.

Pleaseinsureagainstbreakage.

②toinsure（cover）thegoods/theconsignmentagainstallrisksattherateof..forthesumof..with…（insurancecompany）注意：

平安险和水渍险两个险别，在表示投保时，前面不再用介词against.
