  Thebackgroundandplot

  Inthe19thcentury,itwassaidthatgoldhadbeenfoundintheKlondikeareainNorthernCaliforniaofvastwilderness,sothousandsofpeoplerushedintothisuncultivatedgroundtoseekforgoldandfortune,whichneededalargequantityofdogstosupportforthetransportation.TherecameupBuckstorywhichwecan’tdefineitasluckinessorunluckiness.

  Buck,adogweighedonehundredandfortypounds,tall,strong,andheavymuscled,livedacozyandcomfortablelifeinarichfamilyofaJudgenamedMiller,butwassoledbyevilgardenertotwodogdealersandwastooktoAlaskaasasleddog.

  Ledbyhissecondmasters,twogovernmentalcouriers,hestudiedhowtopullasledandhowtoliveinthiscruelworldwhereneededmorecunningbehaviorandlessfakemoralandcourtesy.Forexample,helearnedtosleepinthesnowholetogetwarmnessfromtheclodnights,andhelearnedtothiefbaconandfoodfromhismastersandneighboringcamps,aswellasthat,helearnedhowtofighteffectivelyandefficientlywithhisantagonistsandsurviveofthecombataboutthedominantleaderwithSpitz.Inadditiontothose,healsowentthroughthehardshipsinthetoilontheicelayer,andhelearnedhowtoobtainthevictoryandstandonthewildernesswhichwasbeneficialtohimselfwhocanonlyfittheenvironment,butcan’tdefytheharness.

  Thirtydayspasses,bywhichtimeBuckandhismatesfoundhowreallytiredandweaktheyareuntiltheyarrivedatthelasttown.Theywereinawretchedstate,wornoutandwornout,whichwasnotthetirednessthatcamefromabriefandexcessiveeffortandcanberecoveredfromsomehours’rest,butwasthedeadtirednessthatcamethroughtheslowandprolongedstrengthdrainageofmonthsoftoilandhadtoneedalongvocationtoevacuate.Nevertheless,onlythreedaysaftertheywereboughtbyafamilyincludingafoolishwoman,acallowandignorantyoungster,andamiddleagedmanwithweakandwateryeyes.Nevermindofdog’sfrazzle,thethirdmasterstriedtheirbesttolashoutatthemwithwhip,butBuckwasnotunderverygoodcommandandnotproudandinterestedofthiscareer.UntiltheyreachedatthecampofThornton,withthenaturalinstinctandextremeweariness,Bucktoleratedthewhipfromhissocalledmastersandrefusedtogoaheadwhichwashisluckinesstomeethislastmaster,Thornton.

  Withoutdoubt,Thorntonwasagoodmaster,fullofwisdom,intelligenceandlovewhocanmanageBuck’slifecomfortablyandinorder.Bythecarefulattendanceformhisnewmaster,Buckwasonhisfeetquicklyandsolidly.Filledwiththeloyinglovetowardhismaster,Buckcompaniedhim,savedhislifeforseveraltimesandhelpedhimwinthegamblingparty.Then,theyfacedintotheEastonanunknowntrailtoachievewheremenanddogsasgoodasthemselveshasfailed,asthecallfromthewildbecamestrongerandstrongerwhichattractedBucktoleavethecivilizationtolookfor.TheknifethatcutouttheboundofBuckbetweenhismasterswasthemaster’sdeathswhichleftavoidinthedog’sheartandastrengthenedcallingfromthewild.Buck,acivilizeddog,finallywentbacktowolvesafterthousandsofgenerationbysingingasongoftheyoungerworld,whichisthesongofthepack.

  Surviveofthefittest

  TheCalloftheWildaboundedinDarwinismwhichadvocatedtheevolutionismandnaturalselectiontheory.

  Notonlydidhelearntbyexperience,butinstinctslongdeadbecamealiveagain.MaybeknowledgeacquiredbylearningwasBuck’slefthand,instinctshisright.Goodpedigreesetuphisfirstsenseofatall,strongandmuscularpotentialking,whiletheinstincthelpedhimtolearnfastandsavehislife.“Itwasnotaskforhimtolearntofightwithcutandslashandthequickwolfsnap.”“Theycametohimwithouteffortordiscovery,asthoughtheyhadbeenhisalways.”

  Buckchangedashislivingenvironmentchanged.Withthechangeofenvironment,Buck,comparedtotheprevioussouthernfamilydogthatwasmildandgentle,acquiredmanyabilitiesandskills.Hetriedhisbesttolivebybecomingcunning,cold-blood,andcruelwhichmakehimstepforwardontheroadofcorpseandblood.Surviveofthefittestwhichisdemonstratedbyadaptationtotheenvironmentandwieldingthelawtoprotecthimselfandattackonothersmadehimroaredonthetopofthefoodchainandreturntowolves.

  AllwhatBuckhasdonewasnotduetohisreasonandthought,butduetohisfit.Hewasfittoeverythingsurroundinghimunconsciouslyandputhimtothenewwayoflivingquickly.

  “Thetheory,‘Survivalofthefittest’,isthelawofbiologicalevolutionwhichimpliesthatplantsoranimalsadapttotheenvironmenttosurviveortodieitisthebiologicalsurvivalruleofbrutalbiosphere.”Thatistosay,thekeyofthislawisthatthosewhocanfittheenvironmentcansurvive,onthecontrary,thosefailedtofitwouldbeobsoleteundertheruleofelimination.

  PeepingatBuckandhisstruggle,wecanhaveavisionofushumanthatwasalsofightinginthebattlefieldwithourmatesandagainstourenemy.Filledwithbustlingstuff,wetriedourbesttostandonthetopofrightandauthorityonlybecausethatpositionwouldgiveusmorematerialsandthesenseofpridewhichwedependedontolive.Flowersinthegreenhousedidn’tknowaboutthehardshipofliving,sotheyshowedgoodwillandsendaromatoothers;

whilelifeintheicefieldwherewindwasblowinglikeknifeandthicksnowcanburypeopleonlyshowedawillofsurviveandcutuptheuselessgoodnesstowearonthecoldness.

  Wemustdoitbecausewehadtodoit.Thepackofanimalwaslikeasocietyofpeople.Deathandgenocidewouldhappenonusifwewerenotwillingtofittheenvironmentthoroughly.Todancewiththeshackleofsurviveofthefittestwasthepolicyweshouldcarryoutforever,thereasonwhyourhumanstoodonthetopofbiologicchain,andtheruleoflivingofeveryindividual.

  Myopiniononvirtueandvice

  Somepeoplehadsaidvirtuewasthebiggesttreasurethathumanshouldobey.Thereisnodoubtthatkindness,loyalty,honor,love,companionship,sympathy,mercy,andothervirtueshouldbefollowed.However,Iarguethatthereistransformationbetweendifferentvirtueandeventhevirtueandvice.
