Inordertounderstandhowthisworks,agroupofscientistsattheGermanPrimateCenterandtheUniversityMedicalCenterGottingeninGermanyconductedanexperiment.Inthestudy,theparticipantswereaskedtolookatpatternsonascreenwhosedirectioncouldbeinterpretedindifferentways,suchashorizontally(水平地)orvertically(垂直地).Whenonepatternwasabouttodisappearandthenextonewasabouttocome,theparticipantshadtoindicatethedirectionthatthenextpatternwouldappear.

However,thebirdshandledawkwardlyinexperimentsinwhichtheycouldchoosetodropobjectsineitherawidetubeoranarrowonetogetasnack,theresearcherssaid.Droppingobjectsintoanarrowtubewouldliftthewaterlevelbyagreateramountandputthetreatwithinreachafterjusttwodrops;whileittookaroundsevendropstoraisethesnacktothesamelevelinthewidetube.Thecrowsobviouslydidn’trealizethis,andmostofthemwentforthewidetubefirst.
