JohnLogieBairdwasbornon14August1888inHelensburghonthewestcoastofScotland,thesonofachurchman.Thoughsufferingillhealthformostofhislife,heshowedearlysignsofinventiveness.Whenhewasyoungheshowedgreatinterestinscience.HisstudiesattheGlasgowandWestofScotlandTechnicalCollegewereinterruptedbytheoutbreakofWorldWarOne.Consideredunfitfortheforces,Hewasrefusedbythearmy.ThenheservedasachiefengineerwhowasinchargeoftheengineersoftheClydeValleyElectricalPowerCompany.BairdthenmovedtothesouthcoastofEnglandandappliedhimselftocreatingatelevision.Hisfamilyadvisedhimnotto,buthedidnotlistentothem.Herentedanattic,boughtthethingsheneededandstartedworking.Althoughheworkedforalongtimehewasnotsuccessful.Onedayhesawapictureonhisscreen.Soherushedouttogetsomeonehecould“televise”.Hefoundanofficeboyandtookhimbacktohisroomforhisexperiment.However,noimageoftheboyappearedonhisscreen.Theboy,terrified,hadputdownhishead.Whenheputitupagainhispictureappearedonthescreen.That’showtelevisionhadbeendiscovered.
On26January1926hegavetheworld’sfirstdemonstrationoftruetelevisionbefore50scientists.In1927,histelevisionwasdemonstratedover438milesoftelephonelinebetweenLondonandGlasgow,andheformedtheBairdTelevisionDevelopmentCompany（BTDC）.In1928,theBTDCachievedthefirsttransatlantic（横渡大西洋）televisionbroadcastbetweenLondonandNewYorkandthefirsttransmission（传输）toashipinmid-Atlantic.Healsogavethefirstdemonstrationofbothcolourandstereoscopictelevision.
