ThemoralsensibilitywhichmakesEdensandTempessoeasily,maynotbealwaysfound,butthemateriallandscapeisneverfaroff.WecanfindtheseenchantmentswithoutvisitingtheComoLake,ortheMadeiraIslands.Weexaggeratethepraisesoflocalscenery.Ineverylandscape,thepointofastonishmentisthemeetingoftheskyandtheearth,andthatisseenfromthefirsthillockaswellasfromthetopoftheAlleghanies.Thestarsatnightstoopdownoverthebrownest,homeliestcommon,withallthespiritualmagnificencewhichtheyshedontheCampagna,oronthemarbledesertsofEgypt.Theuprolledcloudsandthecolorsofmorningandevening,willtransfiguremaplesandalders.Thedifferencebetweenlandscapeandlandscapeissmall,butthereisgreatdifferenceinthebeholders.Thereisnothingsowonderfulinanyparticularlandscape,asthenecessityofbeingbeautifulunderwhicheverylandscapelies.Naturecannotbesurprisedinundress.Beautybreaksineverywhere.
