TheSouthAfricangovernmentdiditsbesttokeepMandelafromspreadinghismessageofequalityforblacks.Itputhiminprisonfor27years.Hebecamefamousaroundtheworld.Mandelawasreleasedfromprisonin1990.Hisnever-endinghopewonhimtheheartsofmillions.HereceivedtheNobelPeacePrizein1993.Ayearlater,hewaselectedtobehiscountry'sfirsteverblackpresident.Hediedon5thDecember2013attheageof95.Bythetimeofhisdeath,Mandelahadcometobewidelyconsideredboth“thefatherofthenation,”and“thefoundingfatherofdemocracy”withininSouthAfrica.
