KeyWest’smostfamousresidentwasErnestHemingway,oneofthemostimportantAmericanwritersofthe20thcentury.Ernestandhiswife,Pauline,livedinKeyWestfrom1931to1939.Thehouse,aSpanishstylebuilding,wasaweddinggiftfromPauline’sfather.Inthishouse,Hemingwaywrotesomeofhismostfamousstories,including“TheSnowsofKilimanjaro”and“ToHaveandHaveNot.”

HemingwayhadacatwithsixtoesnamedSnowWhite.Today,about50ofSnowwhite’sdescendantsliveonthegroundsoftheHemingwayhouse.Someofthecatshavesixtoes.
