ChristopherColumbusisconsideredthemostfamousexplorerinhistory.In1493,hewroteaneight-pagelettertoKingFerdinandandQueenIsabellaofSpain,whosupportedhishistoricvoyageacrosstheAtlanticOceanin1492.Theletter,whichwaswritteninLatin,toldColumbus’firstimpressionsofCubaandHispaniola.

ThehistoricletterwasstolenfromalibraryinFlorence,Italy,in1950.Therewasanexcellentcopywheretheoriginalletterwasplaced,sothestaffdidn’tnoticethattherealdocumentwasstolenandnoneofthepublicknewthat.Thepricelessartifactappearedagainin1990whenitwasboughtbyacollectorinSwitzerland.In1992,itwassoldinNewYorkfor$400,000.In2004,itlandedintheU.S.LibraryofCongress.Itwasonlyin2016thatthe500-year-olddocumentwasreturnedtoItaly.

In2012,severalfigurines(小雕像)werecaughtattheJohnF.KennedyInternationalAirportinNewYorkCity.ThepricelessartifactsweredisplayedintheNigerianNationalMuseum,buttheymysteriouslydisappearedlater.
