ThehistoricletterwasstolenfromalibraryinFlorence,Italy,in1950.Therewasanexcellentcopywheretheoriginalletterwasplaced,sothestaffdidn’tnoticethattherealdocumentwasstolenandnoneofthepublicknewthat.Thepricelessartifactappearedagainin1990whenitwasboughtbyacollectorinSwitzerland.In1992,itwassoldinNewYorkfor$400，000.In2004,itlandedintheU．S.LibraryofCongress.Itwasonlyin2016thatthe500－year－olddocumentwasreturnedtoItaly.

In2012,severalfigurines（小雕像）werecaughtattheJohnF.KennedyInternationalAirportinNewYorkCity.ThepricelessartifactsweredisplayedintheNigerianNationalMuseum,buttheymysteriouslydisappearedlater.
