Abstract:

BusinessEnglishletteristhepurposeofbuildingandmaintainingbusinessrelationships,promotetradecooperationandkeepagoodbusinessrelationship,thestandorfallofitsexpressioneffectisdirectlyrelatedtotheeconomicbenefitsofenterpriseorthecompany.HedgesarewidelyusedinvariouskindsofbusinessEnglishletters,andeffectofhedgesinbusinessEnglishcommunicationisofvitalsignificance.BasedontheanalysisofthebusinessEnglishletterinthepragmaticfunctionsofhedges,pointsoutthatthereasonableuseofhedgescanmakebusinesscommunicationmoreaccurate,moreflexible,morepoliteandmoreeffective.

1.Introduction

Withtherapiddevelopmentofsocialeconomy,businessEnglishlettersgraduallybecomepeopleintheglobaleconomyinternationaltradebothsidestheimportantmeansofwrittenbusinessinformationcommunication,throughwhichpeoplecancommunicateinformation,contactthebusiness,todiscusstrade,consultations,dealingwithproblems,suchaspassthefriendship,thewritingiscriticalforbusinesssuccess.Thefuzzylanguageiswidelyusedinmanykindsofbusinessletters,theuseoffuzzylanguageinlarge

Extent,improvetheabilityoflanguagecommunication,makebusinesslettersmorerigorous,accurate,polite,decent,canproducepositiveeffect,soastoachievegoodcommunicationwitheachother,inordertoachievepurpose.

Therefore,forthestudyoffuzzylanguageinbusinessEnglishletterhasimportantpracticalsignificance.

2.hedges

Vaguenessistheessentialattributeofnaturallanguage.TheearliestbytheAmericanlinguisthedgesMr（Lakoff）in1972andbegantostudy.MrInterpretedhedges"makethingsvaguelanguage".Hedges,therefore,referstopeoplesometimescan'tsayveryprecise,eventospeakof"fuzzy"inordertoachievesomepragmaticpurposeoflanguage.Theuncertaintyoffuzzyisreferstolanguage."Fuzzy"isnot"fog",alsoismixed.Languageisanimportantmeansofcommunicationart.Fuzzyinthehistoryofart,istheembodimentoftheeuphemistic.Hedgesinbusinessnegotiations,politicalanddiplomatic,legallanguage,news,advertising,etcarewidelyused,haveverystronglanguageapplicationvalue.

3.BusinessEnglishletterinthepragmaticfunctionsofhedges

3.1Thepolitenessprinciple

PolitenessprincipleisabasicrequirementofbusinessEnglishletterwriting.Politenessphenomenaasoneofbasicmeanstoensurethesuccessofthehumancommunication,causethesociallinguistics,pragmatics,psychologyofattention.FamousBritishscholarleach（Leech）putforward"politenessprinciples",thinkthatcourtesyisguidelineswhendealingwithinterpersonalrelationships.TheuseofthepolitenessprincipleofbusinessEnglishletterwordshasimportantguidingsignificance.Thepragmaticworldofpolitephenomenonisoneofthebiggestimpactonthestudyoffacepreservationtheory.Everyoneloves"face",ifnotintheletterto"face"totheotherparty,canaffectbusinessbetweenus.Ontheotherhand,ifyoucanrespecteachother'swishes,giveeachotherenough"face",itiseasytoleadtotradecooperation.Kasperthink,hedgescanmakethediscourseexpressionhasmoreleeway,reducethenegativeimpact,havetosaveface,self-protectionandflexiblechange,etc.DaiJiandongthinkhedgessaidcourtesyandrespect,andavoiddirectconflict,followthepolitenessprincipleandwiththeaidoffuzzylanguagesaidhewasnotsureattitudeorindirectlyexpressedtheirviews,inordertoachievethepurposeofthemoderatetone.

alittle,almost,kindof,moreorless,quite,sortof,etc..Forexample,Yourreplyisalittlenewestonsentencemean"youreplyabitlate"suggeststhattheotherpartyhasmissedopportunity.Buttheuseofalittle,softenthetoneofthestrong,makethemawareoftheirmistakes,butalsogiveeachotherface,tobemorepolite,andmakeitpossibletocontinuetotradeinthefuture.Howtomakeupforthistypeofinjurytherecipientfacebehaviorwilldecidewhetherthetradebothsidescontinuetocooperate.WritingEnglishbusinesslettermustpayattentiontothepolitenessprincipleandpolitenessprincipleindifferentculture.ThisisindispensableinbusinessEnglishletternotice,alsomustfollowthepragmaticprinciple.

3.2Compliancetheory

Duetoobjectivefactors,thesellercannotbesurewhattimethearrivalofthegoods.Onethousandfromthearrivalofthegoodsontime,probablycausedeconomiclossestothebuyer.But"about"there'sroomformanoeuvre,thebuyerwillconsider,flexibleadjustment,atthesametime,theselleralsoprotectsoneself,toavoidunnecessarydisputes.Visible,theuseofhedgesinbusinessEnglishlettermakesthebusinesscommunicationmoreaccurateanddecent.

4.PragmaticAnalysisofVaguenessinEnglishNews

Inthepresentstudy.vaguelanguageisdisplayedwithinthetheoriessoastodemonstrateitsapplicationandrealizationinEnglishnewsreport.Inthissection,ourattentionisfocusedontheadaptabilityandpritiealDiscourseAnalysisofpragmaticvaguenessinEnglishnews.

4.1VagueLanguageinpoliticalNews

Asismentionedabove.pragmatically.conceptssuchashumanright,freedom,democracy.andsoonareoftenvague.Theunderstandingoftheseconceptsdiffersgreatlyinthespeaker'spoliticalstandandviewpoint.Thus,politicalnewscannotdowithoutvaguelanguage.forsomepoliticaltermsembodyvagueconcepts.Theexampleofnewsreportgoasfollows:

"Bothsidehavehadfullandtalkonawiderangeofsubjectsofmutualinterest".（ChinaDaily,May20,2004）

Inthiscase,theexpression"fullandfrank"and"awiderangeof"isthevagueexpression,adaptingtoboththejoumalist'sandthetwoparties'acceptance.Thereadersandbothsidesonlyfocusontheinformationtheyneedorareinterestedin,sotheunnecessarydetailsshouldbegeneralizedinnewsreport.Thusvaguelanguage,especiallyhedgeisthebestchoice.

Bothsideshavehadtalksonpositiveaspectsandnegativeaspects,andtalksonwhichtheymayagreewitheachother,ordisagree.Inthenews,thevaguewords"fullandfrank"generallymodifythe"talks"withoutreachingaconclusionandspecifyingthewaytheytalked.Vaguenesshereadaptstosavingfaceofbothsideswithouttellingtheprocessoftalks.Thehedge"awiderangeof"subjectsmayinvolvessomesensitivetopics.ortheheadacheissuessuchaspoliticalandeconomicalinterest.Someisssuesaresoconfidentialthattheyarenotpropertobereleased.Thisiswhataccuratelanguagecannotachieve.buttheyarenotachieve.buttheyarenotpropertobereleased.Thisiswhataccuratelanguagecannotachieve.butvaguelanguageworkssowell.adaptingtokeepingsecretsofthetalksandavoidingnegativeeffects.

4.2VagueLanguageinEconomicNews
