　　ChristmasisoriginallyaChristianfestival,asyoucanseefromtheformationofthisword,“Christ-mas.”ThefirstpartofthewordreferstoJesusChrist,andthesecondpart“mas”comesfromtheword“mass,”referringtoamainreligiousceremonyinsomeChristianchurches.Atfirst,itwascelebratedforthebirthofJesusChrist.Nowadays,althoughsomechurchesstillobservethisfestivalforitsreligiousreason,formostpeople,includingChinesepeople,Christmashasalreadybecomeadayofsecularcelebrations,whenpeopleexchangegreetingsandgifts.However,itisstillabiggestfestivalintheWest.ItisasimportanttotheWesternersastheSpringFestivalistotheChinesepeople.

　　Christmasdayisonthe25thofDecember,andChristmasEveisofcoursetheeveningofthepreviousday,the24thDecember.

　　Christmasholidayusuallylastsfortwoweeks,duringwhichmostschoolshaveaChristmasbreak.ManyfamiliesputtheChristmastreeintheirhouse,andhangmanydecorationsonthetree.Underthetree,theyusuallyplacemanyChristmaspresents.Givingoutpresentsandreceivingpresentsarewhatkidslikebestaboutthisfestival.
