当代英语委婉语的发展趋势分析

鉴于此，本文从社会语言学角度探讨了英语委婉语的动态特征和现代委婉语的发展趋势─非常规委婉语的流行。

论文将委婉语的研究层面提升到了句子和语篇层次，着重从语用学的角度，结合礼貌原则和面子理论分析了非常规委婉语的应用。

这为委婉语的研究提供了一个新的视角，在理论和实践方面对研究其发展趋势和日常使用都具有一定的指导意义。

5.1Mainfindings

Analysisofdevelopmentofcontemporaryeuphemismrevealsthateuphemism,asacommunicativestrategy,canbebetterexplainedbyexaminingthewidespreaduseofunconventionaleuphemisms.Thenewdefinitionandclassificationaremadefromthepragmaticperspectiveasgroundwork.Themainassumptionsofpragmatictheoriesareappliedtoexplorethepracticeofeuphemisms,andimportantrelationshipbetweenunconventionaleuphemismsandPolitenessPrinciple,betweenunconventionaleuphemismsandFaceTheory.ThroughtheanalysisoftheapplicationofunconventionaleuphemismsunderPolitenessTheory,themethodsthateuphemismsareusedandtherulesthatgoverntheirusecanbefound,thustheapplicationandinterpretationofeuphemismsaremadeeasier.

5.2Limitationsandfurtherresearch

IfthisstudyofferssomeusefulinformationandmethodswhichcanbeemployedforFLTandcross-culturalcommunication,italsosuffersfromseverallimitations.First,thisthesismakesatentativeresearchonthedevelopmentofcontemporaryeuphemismsbutamoreconvincingsurveyisnotconductedduetolackoftimeandhelpofEnglishnativespeakers.Second,theunderstandingofeuphemismsdependsgreatlyonthesharedcognitiveenvironments,sotounderstandandapplyunconventionaleuphemismneedssaltusincognitiveenvironments.However,inthispaper,analysisoftheapplicationofunconventionaleuphemismsonlyfromtheperspectiveofPolitenessPrincipleandFaceTheoryisfarmoreadequate.Suchadefectisduetothelackoflatestmaterialsandmyinadequateknowledgeoflinguistics.

Takethelimitationsofthisthesisintoconsideration,somefurtherresearchesaresuggested.Firstly,itishopedthattheresearchonchangeanddevelopmentofcontemporaryeuphemismscanbecarriedoutamongpeoplefromEnglish-speakingcountrieswiththehelpofquestionnairesandinterviews.Secondly,theapplicationofunconventionaleuphemismsshouldalsobeanalyzedindifferentcognitiveenvironments.Anditwouldhavemoresayifthestudyofeuphemismscanbebasedonrealexamplesindailylifeandstatisticevidencecollectedinthesurveyofnativespeakersinsteadoftheoreticalhypothesis. Inshort,sincethecontentandthescopeofeuphemismschangeconstantly,thestudyofeuphemismsshouldalwaysbeintheprocessofbeingexplored.
