Herstoryendedinmysterywhenshedisappearedwithoutatrace(踪迹)duringaflightoverthePacificOcean.TheoriesaboutwhathappenedtoEarhartwereproposed,butnothingwaseverconfirmed—untilnow.AstudypublishedinMarchconductedbyRichardJantzfromtheUniversityofTennessee,US,determinedthatbonesfoundin1940onaremotePacificislandbelongedtoEarhart.Followingthediscovery,theworld’smemoriesofthelegendaryfemalepilotwerebroughtbacktolife.

Earhartwasbornin1897.Whenshewasyoung,shewasveryinterestedinstoriesaboutwomenwhoweresuccessfulinmale-dominated(男性为主的)professions,suchasengineeringandlaw.Butin1920,Earhart’slifechangedafterherfirstexperienceofbeingaplanepassenger.Assoonastheplanelefttheground,Earhartknewthatshelovedflying,soshefoundherselfateacherandstartedtolearnhowtoflyforherself.Topayforthelessonsandbuyaplaneofherown,shetookallsortsofjobs.

In1932,EarhartflewsoloacrosstheAtlanticOcean,becomingthefirstwomanevertodoso.Shealsodesignedaflyingsuitforwomenandwentontodesignotherclothesforwomenwholedactivelives.Whenshewasnearly40,Earhartwasreadyforafinalchallenge—tobethefirstwomantoflyaroundtheworld.Herfirstattemptwasunsuccessfulbutshetriedagainin1937withhernavigator(领航员)FredNoonan.Butonemonthlater,theydisappearedinbadweatherinmid-flight.
