1.ExteriorCosmeticsReliabilityRequirements
1.1.Objective
ThisdocumentdefinesthereliabilityrequirementsfortheSurfaceHubproductandstandsexteriorsurfaces,excludingthestylusanddisplay.
1.2.Responsibility
Componentsuppliers,externallabs,andcontractmanufacturersareresponsibleforfollowingtherequirementsstatedinthisdocument.OnlyoperatorstrainedinconductingthespecifiedtestsaccordingtothetestplanoutlinedbyMicrosoftshallbeused.

1.4.SampleSize
SamplesizeshallbedeterminedbyMicrosoftpriortostartingthetests.However,thissamplesizecanbeincreasedordecreasedatMicrosoft’sdiscretionatanypointduringtesting.

1.5.SampleIdentification
Allunitsundertestshallbeadequatelylabeled.
Ataminimum,thesemarkingsshallincludeserialand/orpartnumbers,thenameoftheirtestgroup,theirrespectiveidentificationnumberwithintheirtestgroup,andanyotherpertinentdatathatmakestheconfigurationeasilyidentifiableforMicrosoft,operators,andinventorypurposes.Thetestfacilityshalluseprintedlabelsforlegibility.

1.6.EquipmentMaintenance
Allequipmentusedforreliabilitytestsshallbecalibratedandallmaintenanceshallbeperformedpriortostartingtests.Thelabshallensurethatteststoppagesdonotoccurduetoscheduledmaintenanceorcalibration.Maintenanceactivitiesshallincludebutarenotlimitedtocalibration,addressingcomponentwearduringthecourseofequipmentusage,andallactivitiesundertakentoassurerepeatability.

2.VisualInspectionMethod
Visualinspectionfordefectsduringnormalproductionshallbeconductedwithoutmagnificationfrom45cm(18inches)for45seconds.

Onceadiscrepancyislocated,thereisnotimelimitfordeterminingthenatureorseverityofthediscrepancy.Viewingangleshallbewithin30degreesofperpendiculartothesurface.SeeFigure1.Visualinspectionshallbemadebyindividualswith20/20vision,orcorrectedto20/20vision.Exceptwhenverifyingcolors,inspectionshouldbedoneundernormallighting(300-700Lux)conditionsusingwhitefluorescentlights.

3.MeasurableDefects
Measurabledefectsonpaintedsurfacesshallnotexceedthefollowinglimits.Apre-approvedtemplateformeasuringareaofdefectsmustbeused.Thesedefectsmayincludenicks,scratches,contamination,voids,dragmarks,inclusions,pinholes,pits,runs,etc.Thesemeasurabledefectsshallnotincludeadhesionrelateddefects.

4.EvaluationTests
Thesetestsareusedtoevaluatethesurfacesbeforeandafterthereliabilitytests.
