Thisyear,thewinnersoftheLondonMarathonweresurprisinglybothfromKenya—DanielWanjiru,whofinishedin2hoursand5minutes,andMaryKeitany,whosetimewas2hoursand17minutes.

However,mostmarathonrunnersarenotprofessionalathletes.Theyareamateurswhohavetrainedformonthstoraisemoneyforcharityorjustasapersonalchallenge.Forexample,TomHarrisontookthreedaysjusttoreachtherun’shalfwaypoint,asheiscrawlingthecourseonhishandsandkneesdressedasagorilla(大猩猩),tryingtoraisemoneyandattentionforthecharity‘TheGorillaOrganisation’.
