我惊喜的发现我教了十年雅思,居然碰到了难得一见的9分文章,我给了几位前任的IELTSExaminer打了分数,都给出了9分。

Itisdisingenuoustoassumethateconomy,societyandcultureoperateinseparatespheres.Thissuggeststhat,one,exposedtotheglobalizing

imperative,noaspectofsociallife,customarypractice,traditionalbehaviourwillremainthesame.

Therehavebeen,broadly,twoprincipalresponsesintheworld,whichwemaycallthefatalisticandtheresistant.ItissignificantthatamongthemostfatalistichavebeentheleadersofG-7,Ex-PresidentClintonsaidglobalizationisafactnotapolicychoiceTonyBlairsaiditisinevitableandirreversible.Itmaybeconsideredparadoxicalthattheleadersofthemostdynamicand

expandingeconomiesintheworldoffersuchapassive,unchallengingviewofwhatare,afterall,human-madearrangements.Theseareamongtherichestandmostproactiveregimes,whichcanwageendlesswaronthegreat

abstraction,thatisterror,toppleregimesandlaydownoneWTOlawforthepoorandanotherforthemselves.Istheirhelplessnessinthepresenceofthesemightyeconomicandculturalpowers?

Thenotionofsuccessholdsdifferentmeaningsfordifferentpeopleandgroups.Suchmeaningshavechangedandevolvedovertime.Actually,manyproposethatpossessinganabundanceofmoneyimpliessuccess.However,thisviewisrenderedobsoleteinthemindsofthoseindividualswhoholdthatone'ssuccesscannotbemeasuredstrictlybymoney.

Materialpossessionhasbeentraditionallyacceptedasthemeasurementofone'ssuccessorsocialstatus.Whenweinitiallyrefertosomeone,weroutinelymentionhowmuchmoneyheownsandtherebybelievethisindividualtobequitesuccessfulifheiswealthy.Inadditiontothisperpetuatedconcept,owningalotofmoneyistypicallyrelatedtoone'sworkabilityandthussomepeoplemaysimplyconsidermoneyasaprimemeasurementofone'ssuccess.

However,thisviewhaschangedrecentlysincemanypeoplehavecometorecognizethatmoneyinmanycasescannotbringabouthappiness,healthandsuccess.Amoreprecise,contemporaneousdefinitionofsuccessmeansdoingthethingsoneperceivesarevaluabletothemselvesandbeneficialforothers.ThewinneroftheNobelPrizeforpeacemaythinkheishasachievedsuccessalthoughheisrewardedlittlefinancialbenefit.Apersonwholovesanimalsandmakesanefforttosaveanimalsthatareonapathofextinctionmaythinkhehasgainedsuccessalthoughhemayhaveexpendedallofhismoneyonhiscareer.

Anotherindividualmaydefinesuccessasbeingabletomakeartisticmasterpiecesthatcanbeacceptedbypublic.Asacomposer,successishavinghisworkpraisedbyadoringfansandwhohelpcausetheworktobeboughttheworldover.Similarly,holdinganexhibitioninafamousartgallerymayconnotesuccessforapainter.

Peopleadheretovariousconceptsdefiningsuccess.Moneysurelycannotbetheonlymeasurementofsuccess.Acquiringtruehappinessinlifeandattainingsuccessmeanshavingthefreedomandcapabilityofdoingthatwhichyouenjoyandbelievingittobevaluable.

Computers-willtheyreplaceteachers?

Withthepresentwideuseofcomputers,inthecourseofteaching,moreandmoreteachersareinfavourofusingcomputersasanaidinteachingtheirstudentsorinappropriatingthelatestinformationfromtheInternet.However,Iamnotabelieverintheargumentthatcomputersmayinthefuturetaketheplaceofteachersinteachingstudents.

Firstly,thecreatorsofanyeducationprogramandsoftwareneedtobeteachersorworkersintheeducationsystem,orprogrammerswhohadpreviouslyworkedineducation.Therefore,althoughstudentsmaylearnknowledgebycomputer,theskillsandideasultimatelyemanatefromtheteachingstaff.

Secondly,whilethecomputermayofferacorrectanswerorexplanationtostudents,thecomprehensioncapabilityofeverystudentvariesfromstudenttostudent,makingitisimpossibleforthecomputertoofferanexplanationcateredtoastudent’sparticularlevelofunderstanding.However,theteacherisabletoundertakethistask,asheorshepossessesexpertiseinteaching.Forexample,whenateacherdiscoversthatmanystudentscannotunderstandprofessionalknowledge,heorshemayofferexplanatoryexamples.Thecomputer,however,mayonlyanalyzeaquestionintermsofasimplerightorwrongresponse.

Finally,theteachersareinvariablyresponsibleforcarryingadualrole.Mostteachersactasnotonlyaneducator,butalsoakindoffatherormother-figureintakingcareofstudentsinschool.Theteacherisabletoassistparentsinsolvingachild’smentalproblemsotherthanimpartingdailyknowledge.Thecomputer,whichispurelyanalgorithmicelectronicdevice,cannothopetoassistinthisregard.Insummary,thecomputermaynotplayamajorroleineducationincomparisontothebenefitsofateacherbestows.However,itiscriticalthatteachersimprovetheiroldteachingmodesbyusingcomputersatsomelevelofeducationalteaching.

Whilemanyindividualscomplainthattheyarenotsufficientlyclevertosucceedinlife,Ifirmlybelievethatpersonalityanddevelopmentaredecidedmorebyeducationandtrainingafterbirththananygivengene.

Tobeginwith,environmentisadeterminingfactorofone'spersonality.Onemaythinkthatpersonalityisalreadyshapedonceababyisborn,butinfacttherearemanycontributingfactors.Thebaby,forinstance,wouldmostlikelybepessimisticifheorshelivedinapoorfamily,wherethebabyalwaysreceivedpunishmentfromhisparents.Hisviewoflifewouldbeverydifferentfromanotherindividualwholivedhappilyinaperfectnurturingfamilywithencouragementandpsychologicalsupportfromhisparents.

Further,educationafterbirthplaysasignificantlyroleinone'sdevelopment.Education,whichhelpschildrendeveloptheirthinkingandaccumulatetheirknowledge,isadecidingfactorofone'ssuccess.Forexample,ahigh-schoollevelpersoncommonlymaynottotheextentofapersonwhohasreceivedanuniversityeducation.Thisisnotonlybecauseofthegreaterbreadthofknowledgeacquired,butalsoduetoamorecriticalandfocusedwayofthinkingthatisimpartedandrefinedduringonessenioreducation.Awolfchild,toofferanotherinstance,duetoadeficiencyofeducatio

nbycontactwithhumanbeings,couldhardlyliveinoursocietyorself-develop.

Admittedly,nature,decidedbythegenesgivenbyone'sparents,alsoaffectsone'spersonalityanddevelopment.Onecanclearlyfinddifferencesamongyoungerkidsintheirlearningability,whichcouldprovetheimportanceofgenesinthisregard.However,whencomparedwithotherfactorsafterbirth,therolegenesplayinone'spersonalityanddevelopmentmaynotbeparticularlysignificant.Notallgeniuswillinevitablybesuccessful,andsimilarlynotallgreatmenaregeniusintheirchildhood.Therefore,Iholdthatenvironmentandeducationafterbirthweighheavierthannatureinregardtoone'spersonalityanddevelopment.

Bothcompetitionandcooperationplayalargeroleintheadvancementofsociety,bothinbusinessandnon-businessareas.Competitionforcespeopletoimprovetheirproductsorservices,andhencebenefitstherecipientsoftheseproductsorservices.Cooperation,however,playsanevenmoreimportantroleindevelopmentofindividualsandthesocietyasawhole,becauseitdrasticallyincreasesthescaleoftheseimprovements.Workingingroupsandteamsfarincreasestheproductivityofindividuals.Thus,Ifirmlybelievechildre
