ThefirstTaiwanpackagetouropenedonJuly4,2008.However,touristsoftencomplainedabouttightschedules(紧张的行程)andbegantoaskfora“deepertravelexperience”.

Over57,000residentsfromBeijing,ShanghaiandXiamenhavevisitedTaiwanasindividualtouristssinceJune28,2011,whenTaiwanfirstallowedindividualtouristsfromthesethreecitiestovisit.Thedealtoextend(扩展)theindividualtourcitylistwillboost(促进)thetravelbusinessonbothsidesoftheTaiwanStraitandbenefittravelers.

“TravelingasindividualswillallowmainlanderstodiscoverreallifeinTaiwan.ItistherightdirectionforcrossStraittourism,”DaiBin,presidentofthemainlandbasedChinaTourismAcademy,toldXinhua.

AccordingtoTaiwan’smainlandaffairs(事务)department,morethan3millionmainlandtouristsvisitedTaiwanbetweenJuly2008andDecember2011,bringingmorethanDS|5billioninprofittotheTaiwanesesightseeingsector(部门).Meanwhile,thenumberofTaiwanesevisitorstotheChinesemainlandinayearhitthe5millionmarkin2010.
