BunyanonceinhisbooknamedPilgrim’sProcessdescribedaplacenamed‘VanityFair’whereallkindsofvanityaresold,suchashouses,lands,honors,preferments,titles,lusts,pleasuresanddelightsofallsorts.Asamatteroffact,wearelivinginsuchplacetoday.Wegraduallybecometheparticipantsofthisfairandloyalfollowersofthesehollowthings.Espenciallyourmoderngrils’changingviewtowardmarriage,moneyandsocialstatus.Theybelievethattheycouldeasilylivealifelikeagrandladywithoutmakinganyeffortsiftheymarryawealthyman.Asfemalecollegestudents,howtosticktoourownbeliefandaviodbeingassimilatedbythecomplexsociety,Thackeray’snovelVanityFaircouldgiveusagoodinstruction.ThroughtheRebacca’sattitudetowardsmoney,socialstatusandmarriage,Irealizewhatismostimportantthingforafemale.
ThackeraydescribedthelifeofrulingclassesofEnglandintheearlydecadesofthe19thcentury,andattackedthesocialrelationshipofbourgeoisworldbysatirizingtheindividualsinthedifferentstrataoftheuppersociety.Rebacca(becky)Sharpisaclassicexampleofthemoney-grubbinginstinct.Heronlyaspirationinlifeistogainwealthandpositionbyanymeans.ThackeraydoesnotregardRebaccaasanexception.EveryonewishestogainsomethingintheVanityFairandactsalmostinthesamemannerasRebacca.
Asanorphan,Rebacca’sbirthcaneasilywinourtears.Itisanundeniblefactthatsheisquiteanambitiousandclevergirl.AsfarasIamconcerned,shecouldeasilyliveadecentlifewithherownhand.However,becauseofthesocietyandtheinnatedeficitsinhercharacteristics,shebecomesverysophisticateandeventriedtosuduceherbestfriend’sbrothersothatshecouldwinherplaceintheuppersocietyandother’sadmiration.However,forthepeopleintheupperclass,Rebacca’shumblebirthcuoldneverbeerasedeventhoughshemarriedarichman.Inother’seye,shewasjustacoquettewhowasquitegoodatsuducingrichmen.Whynotuseyourownhandtocreateabrightfutureandwinothers’truerespectinsteadofrelyingontheman’sshoulder.
Rebaccaliveedinasocietywhichisruledbymoney,everyonewascrazyaboutmoney,Rebaccawasnoexception.Sheheldthedreamoflivingalifeofagrandlady,wearingluxuriousclothesandshiningdimonds.Inordertorealizeherdream,sheusedallkindsofimmoralmeanstowintheloveofrichmen.Finally,shegotmarriedwithRawdonCrawley,agoodmanwhowillinheritalargesumofmoneyfromherant.However,theoldladyrefusedbecauseCrawleymarriedRebacca---awomanoflowsocialstatus.RebaccaandherhusbandliveaquiteluxuriouslifeinPairseventhoughtheycouldnotmakethebothendsmeet.Finally,Mr.Crawleywasputintoprisonbecauseofheavydebets,whileRebaccastartedsearchingforanotherrichmanwhocanpayforherluxuriousbills.Rebaccabetrayedhersoulintheprocessofpursuitingmoneyandgraduallyforgotthemeaningoflove.
Marriageisaholythingineveryone’slife,butifyouregardmarriageasagoodmethodofgainingmoneyandimprovingyoursocialstatus,youwillsufferalotfromit.Althoughyouliveadecentlifeandgainother’sadmiration,youmayneverbeturehappybecauseyouneverknowwhatisloveandresponsibilty.Rebacca’smarriageisagoodexample.Shetookaquiteeasyattitudetowordsmarriage.Hermarriagewasjustamethodwhichhelpedhergetintotheupperclassandlivearichlife.Therisnowonderthatshewassocrueltoherhusbandandflirtedwithanotherrichmanwhenherhusbandwasintheprison.HereIwanttomentionanotherfemale----Amelia,agirlofsimplemind.InRebacca’smindshewasafool.Atfirst,sheheldthesameviewasRebacca.Herhusband’sdeathinthewarmadeherbecomeasorrowfulwidow.TillonedayRebaccatoldherthatherhusbandonceaskedRebaccatorunwithhim.Ameliawasangryandmarriedamanwhohastakencareofherforseveralyearsuncomplainly.Ameliaisnotacoldheartedwomen,althoughherdreamofbeingagrandladyhadvanished,butsheexperiencedalifeofbeingtrulyloved.WhileforRebacca,shewillforeverlivedintheVanityFairandneverhasthechancetoexperiencethiskindoflove.Inmyeye,Ameliaiswiserthanher.

pleasekeepalwaysfromVanity,andtakeacorrectattitudetowardsmoney,socialstatusandmarriage.Moneyisnoteveryinourlife.Theimprovementofoursocialstatusneedsourowneffortsinsteadofrelyingonothers.Mrriageisahollythinginourgirls’life,whichrequiresourresponsibilityandloyalty.Orwewillforeverliveinahollowworldandthedreamofvanitywillfinallydestoryus.

Duringtheperiodofwinterholidays,ihavereadanovel“vanityfair“.maincircumstanceofnovelmaydividetwoclues.acluedepictsthedeceasedpoorpainter’sdaughterbeckyafterleavingpingkedunwomanboardingschool,staystemporarilyatrichfamilymissameliahome,butshetrytoseduceamelia‘selderbrothertoentergoodsociety.afterthismatterfailed,beckycomestopittcrawley’shomeasfamilyteacher,atthesametimesheplayssomecutemeanssuchasbeingunctuous,andgangingwithtogooduse.butwhenpittmakesaproposaltobeckyafterlosingspouse,shehasalreadymarriedknight’ssonrawdon.anotheracluewritepuregirlameliabeingdeeplyinloveoftheofficergeorgeosborne,surmountsallobstaclesfinallygettingmarriedwithhim.butherhusbandabandonsherveryquicklyrightaway.ameliaisspoonytogeorge,evenifafterherhusbanddied,shestillisunwillingtogetremarriedtoothers.final,beckytellsthefactthatgeorgemadeanappointmentwithselftoelopebeforeone’sdeath,ameliaagreegetmarried.beckybeabandonedbecausepersonalrelationshipisfoundthatbythehusbandafterwards.heroldagegetsasumofinheritancefromanotherloverjosephinhand,charitiesbeginningtobeenthusiasticin.
Havetoadmitthisstoryisveryreal.personinsidethevanityfairisunabletoseeclearly,thevanityfairisexternalpersonsamebeunabletoseeclearly.somebodyalllongsformoney,position.onceyouhaveownedonekindamongthem,theotherpersonallpaysspecialregardtoyou.thedobbinusesalifetimelovetohavewaitedtillhislovedone,hededicateshisyouthandtimetothepitifulpeopleinvanityfair.but,thefinalisgood.ithinktheauthorcan’tbeartoletgoodpersonsufferhardships,thekindpeoplehasgothappiness,hascomeinandgoneoutofinthevanityfair.thoseareavaricious,selfish,foolish,proud,amanofnoscrupleshasgotdueretribution.havelookedatseveraltimewithfinal.,alittlebithappy,alittlebitgrieved.thisisnotonlyanovel,thisisasocietyinminiature.itisnotjustintheunitedkingdomatthattime,itisalsointoday.whoisnotencumberedwiththefameandfortune?

Vanityfair,howcanwecomeinandgooutofinthisplace,howtofacethislocal,everybodyisallignorantinthenovelselfish,eagerforfameandfortune,endupeffortsfornothing.
