SherwoodAnderson(1876~1941)
SherwoodAnderson’slifewasinawayarchetypalofliterarylivesinmodernAmerica.HewasbornintoapoorfamilyinCamden,Ohio,theU.S.in1876,butspenthisformativeyearsinthetownofClyde,Ohio,whichinspiredthesettingofmanyofhisstories.Heworkedasalaborerin1896~1898,thenservedintheSpanishAmericanWar.
Hewastheauthorofmanystoriesandnovels,andhewasamajorinfluenceonayoungergenerationofimportantwriters,includingFaulkner,Hemingway,Wolfe,Steinbeck,andothers,boththroughhiswritingsandhisactsofpersonalkindness.Itwasthroughhisinfluence,forexample,thatthefirstbooksofbothFaulknerandHemingwaywerepublished.

thoseoftheNorthat$31million.ItwasthusobviousthattheSouthwasdependentonEuropeandontheNorthformaterialgoods.ThelackofresourcesforcedtheConfederacytolevywartaxesandborrowheavilyonfuturecottoncrops.Aninflationaryperiodin1863andlatergovernmentactionsalmostdestroyedtheConfederatecredit.
