TheCentre'shomeisarestored18thcenturytownhouseinthenorthofDublin,thecityofJoyce'sbirthandthesettingforallhisworks.FromthiscentralplaceinJoyce'sheartland,theCentreaimstodevelopanappreciationofthismostremarkableandsignificantliteraryfigureofthe20thcentury.

No35NorthGreatGeorge'sStreetwasbuiltin1784anddecoratedwithfineplasterwork(灰泥)byMichaelStapleton.Thehousewasrestoredinthe1980sandopenedastheJamesJoyceCentrein1996,runbymembersofJoyce'ssister'sfamily.

TheKenmareRoomisusedforlecturesandhasasmallshowofreproductionsofJoycefamilypictures.Inaddition,thisroomprovidesdetailsofJoyce'slifeandtimes,areadingtablewherevisitorscansitandreadworksbyandaboutJoyce,andashowofsomeofthemanytranslationsofJoyce'sworks.
