Bishoppublishedherfirstbookofpoetryin1946andwroteuntilherdeathin1979.Shewouldspendyearsworkingonasinglepoem.Herpoemsarenottheresultofhastyscribbling(匆忙乱写)onpaperwhileeatingbreakfast.Overalifetimeofwriting,sheonlypublishedabout275pagesofpoetry,andabout40ofthosearetranslations.Shewouldlookthroughdraftsofpoemsagainandagainandimprovethemuntiltheywereasclosetoperfectasshecouldgetthem.
