历史上,中国书法与权力密不可分。
两干多年前,中国的第一个皇帝秦始皇统一了中国的文字。
新的简化汉字使书写变得简单。
人们使用适合毛笔书写的直线笔画写字,由此产生了隶书。
随着时间的推移,其他字体也产生了,最后形成中国书法的五种字体:
篆;
隶、楷、行、草。

普通中国人似乎也热爱书法。
这一方面是因为历代皇帝的提倡,另一方面是因为朝廷从7世纪开始实行的科举考试。
这种考试借文章选拔人才,成为平民百姓的晋身之阶。
书法因此受到重视。
此外,书法还有着实际的效用,比如结交朋友。

苏州园林
苏州有一百多处古代的私家园林。
那里的园林以自然景观与人造建筑融为一体而著称。
园林中有溪流、假山、树木,以及亭、台、阁、桥,造成一种集诗、书、画于一体的诗意环境。
山不在高,贵在层次;
水不在深,妙在曲折。
它既体现了儒家文化中人与自然和谐相处的观念,也表达着道家崇尚自然的理念。

中国有个家喻户晓的武将关羽,传说他面如重枣。
他的脸谱就使用了红色,代表仁义忠勇。

中国人实行合餐制,用餐的人在同一个盘中取食,用筷子可以限制个别人大量取食。
如此一来,既保留了集体主义的形态,个人利益又不会受太大影响。
西方人就简单一些,每个人吃自己盘里的食物,吃法也没有什么严格限制。

有人认为,中国是农耕民族,食物以植物为主,用筷子适宜取食。
而西方人是游牧民族,以肉食为主,刀叉就来得更方便。
也有人认为中国是农业社会,工业发展晚,木筷正是这种情形的产物。
而西方是工业化社会,金属制品做餐具是其必然。

红是喜庆的象征。
比如结婚时的双喜字是红色的,新娘要穿红色的嫁衣,这与西方穿白色婚纱不同。
年节时,送晚辈压岁钱要用红纸包,称“红包”,以示吉祥。
