学习目标:
通过对英语基础知识的学习和训练,培养听、说、读、写、译五大语言基本技能,使语言学习、语言实践、语言应用以及文化体验有机结合,同时也借由此教学情景让学生了解哈佛大学,提高人文素养。
本情景具体学习目标如下:
1、听说能力目标:
通过介绍大学生活的常用语,使学生具有大学生活相关的日常交际能力。
2、阅读能力目标:
通过教材阅读,在扩大学生词汇量的同时,使学生掌握如何通过主题句理解中心思想,如何通过构词法和上下文猜生词,从而加强学生阅读能力。
3、写作能力目标:
通过对证明写作格式的讲解,使学生了解证明所包括的相关内容,具备书写证明的能力。
4、翻译能力目标:
英译汉:
使学生掌握插入语的翻译。
汉译英:
了解和掌握“包括”、“位于”等词组的翻译,提高翻译能力。

1HarvardUniversity,theoldestuniversityinAmerica,beganin1636inMassachusetts,nearBoston.TheuniversitywasnamedafteraPuritanreligiousleader,JohnHarvard,whobytheheritageofhislibraryandsmallfortunehelpedtolaunchtheinstitutionin1638;itwasoriginallyintendedforthetrainingofyouthsforthePuritanministry,butithasbeenextendedintoauniversityofthefirstrank,freefromallreligiouscontrol.ManyfamouspeoplestudiedatHarvard.SevenpresidentsoftheUnitedStatesweregraduatesofHarvard.Itsfacultyhaveproducedmorethan40NobelPrizes.
2TheUniversityhasgrownfromninestudentswithasinglemastertoanenrollmentofmorethan18,000degreecandidates,includingundergraduatesandstudentsin10principalacademicunits.Anadditional13,000studentsareenrolledinoneormorecoursesintheHarvardExtensionSchool.Morethan3,000arefromoutsidetheUnitedStates.MostoftheforeignstudentsarefromAsiaorEurope.Mostarestudyingforgraduatedegrees.
3Manyyearsago,Harvardstudentswereallwhitemen.Mostofthemwerefromrichfamiliesfromnortheasternstates.Thathaschanged.Atpresent,aboutthirty-threepercentofthefirst-yearstudentsatHarvardarefromminoritygroups.TheseincludeAfricanAmericans,AsianAmericansandHispanicAmericans.Almostfiftypercentoffirst-yearstudentsarewomen.Today,mostHarvardstudentsarenotrich,althoughitisverycostlytostudythere.Itcostsmorethanfortythousanddollarsforoneyearfortuition,room,foodandpersonalexpenses.MostofthestudentsatHarvardhaveloans,financialaidorjobsthathelppayfortheireducation.
4.ManyexpertsconsiderHarvardtobethebestuniversityintheUnitedStates.Itisverydifficulttobeacceptedtostudythere.Morethan19,000highschoolstudentsappliedtoattendHarvardasundergraduatesin2002.About1,600ofthembeganstudyingthereinSeptember.
5.HarvardUniversityincludesHarvardCollegeandthefollowinggraduateschools:

6.HarvardislocatedinCambridge,acityonthebanksoftheCharlesRiver,acrossfromBoston.Therearemanyshops,bookstores,andrestaurants.TouristsgotoHarvardSquaretoseethefamouscampus,shops,andbuyHarvardT-shirts.BothBostonandCambridgeenjoyahistoryoftradition,asillustratedbytheirconcerthalls,librariesandbookstores,museums,theaters,coffeehouses,shops,andplaygrounds.Theculturalandrecreationalopportunitiesarecountlessandeasilyaccessible.Beachesandmountainsarebothconvenientlynear.
7.TheresidentialplanforundergraduatestudentsisanessentialpartoftheHarvardexperience.EverystudentisassuredaplaceinCollegehousingforfouryears.FreshmenliveinoneoftheseveraldormitoriesinHarvardYard,theoldestandmostcentralpartofthecampus.Attheendofthefreshmanyear,studentsmoveintoresidentialHousesinwhichtheywilllivefortherestpartoftheirundergraduatecareers.TheHousesystemprovidesasmallercommunityforstudentswithinthelargerUniversityenvironment.EachHousehasaresidentseniorfacultymemberwhoiscalledthemaster,aseniortutorordean,atutorialstaff,alibrary,anddiningfacilities.AllHousesarecoeducational,andmuchofthesocial,athletic,extracurricular,andacademiclifecentersontheHouse.
