Therimeconsistsofvowel,whichistreatedasthenucleusorpeak,plusthefollowingconsonant,treatedascoda尾音.

Aminimalpairshouldfollowthreeconditions:

1)theyaredifferentinmeaning;2)theydifferonlyinonesoundsegment;3)thedifferentsoundsoccurinthesamepositioninthestrings.

Whenagroupofwordsmeetalltheabovethreeconditions,theyarecalledaminimalset最小集合.E.g.:

2)pitbitkitsitfitknithit

Freevariation自由变异

Whentwoormoredifferentsoundsoccurinthesamepositionwithoutanychangeofmeaning,theyaresaidtobeinfreevariation.

E.g.:

economics,direct,either,neither

Phone,phoneme,allophone

•Phone语音:

individualsoundsastheyoccurinspeech.Itappearsinsquarebrackets.

•Phoneme音素:

thesmallestunitofsoundinalanguagewhichcandistinguishtwowords.Itappearsintwoslantinglines.
