WhoCaresaboutaSmallFish?

Amanwashavingawalkalongtheseasideafterastormononemorning.

Ashewaswalking,henoticedlotsofsmallshallowpits,wheremanysmallfishbroughtupbythestormlastnightweretrapped.Theycouldnotgobacktotheseathoughtheseawasonlyinchesaway.

Theyweretrappedthere.Thesunwouldriseupandverysoonthesewaterpitswouldbesuckeddry,andthesefisheswoulddie.

Themankeptonwalkingahead.Hesawaboynotfarfromhimwalkingveryslowly,andtheboystoopeddowntothepitsfromtimetotime---hewaspickingupthesmallfishesandthrowingthembackintothesea.

Hestoppedandwatchedtheboy.

Finally,themancametotheboy,andsaid,“Son,therearesomanyfishes,anditisimpossibleforyoutosavethemall.”

“Icertainlyknowthat.”answeredtheboywithoutlookingup.

“Oh!

Whydon’tyoustopdoingthat?

Whocaresaboutthosesmallfishes?

“Thisfishcares!

”answeredtheboy.Thenhecontinuedpickingupthefishes.“Thisonealsocares,andthisone,andthisone…”hesaid.

WeCare

Everyfishisalife,nomatterhowsmallitlooks.Butonlyinthesea,isitslifemeaningful.

Acollegeteacherhadtaughtonecoursefordecades,buteverylecturehegavewaswonderfulallthesame.Everyonewonderedwhy.Hejustsaid,“Thislecturecouldbethehundredthtimeformetogiveit,but,forthestudents,itisonlytheirfirsttimetolistentoit.”.

SomethingisnotWhatitLooksLike

Twoangelsonajourneycametoawealthyfamily.

Thisfamilyrefusedtoletthemspendthenightinacomfortableroom.Instead,theyputthemupinasmallcornerofthecoldbasement.Whentheywenttobed,theolderangelsawaholeinthewall,andfixeditwithoutanydifficulty.Theyoungerangelwonderedwhy,andtheolderonesaid,“Somethingisnotwhatitlookslike.”

Thenextevening,bothofthemwenttoaverypoorfamily.

Thiscouplewasveryhospitabletothemandofferedthemtheirownbed.

Nextmorning,thetwoangelsfoundthiskindcouplesobbing,becausetheylosttheironlysourceofincome---theircowhaddied

Asamatteroffact,sometimesseeingisnotbelieving,becausewhatweseeisalwaysjustthesurface.That’stosay,wearelikelytobedeceivedbythesurface.

Inthemorning,thewaiterbroughthimabreakfast,knockedonthedoorandsaid,“Goodmorning,sir!

Thisstorytellsusthatinterpersonalcommunicationisactuallyabattleofwill:

youeitherwinothersover,ortheywinyouover.However,manypeopleareindecisivewhenmakingchoices,andtheyneedastrongvoice.Iftheywanttosucceed,theymustestablishtheirstronginfluencesoastobethepowerfulone.

Soweshouldwatchoutforwhatwedoandwhatwesay,becauseourmannersandspeechesmayexertgreatinfluenceonothers.

Weshouldtrytoestablishourinfluenceandauthority.Weshouldtrytobeassertiveifwehavetospeakinpublicandtrytomakeeverywordcount.

Ifwehavealreadyestablishedinfluence,whatwesaywillresound,andinadversitywhatwesaywillturnthetideover.

Afterseveraldays,theislandwasreallysinking.Lovewantedsomeonetohelphimescape.

WhenLovesawWealthintheboatpassingby,Lovesaid,“Couldyoupleasegivemearide?

“No,myboatisfulloftreasure.Thereisnoroomforyou.”answeredWealth.

SeeingVanityinanotherbeautifulboat,Lovesaid,“Vanity,canyoudomeafavor?

“Iamsorry.Youarewetallover.Youwilldirtymyboat.”saidVanity.

Sorrowcameover.Lovepleaded,“Pleasetakemewithyou.”
