Foreword

Thisjointstandardcoverstheuseofblastcleaningabrasivestoachieveadefineddegreeofcleaningofsteelsurfacespriortotheapplicationofaprotectivecoatingorliningsystem.Thisstandardisintendedforusebycoatingorliningspecifiers,applicators,inspectors,orotherswhomayberesponsiblefordefiningastandarddegreeofsurfacecleanliness.

Thefocusofthisstandardiscommercialblastcleaning.Whitemetalblastcleaning,near-whitemetalblastcleaning,industrialblastcleaning,andbrush-offblastcleaningareaddressedinseparatestandards.

Commercialblastcleaningprovidesagreaterdegreeofcleaningthanindustrialblastcleaning（SSPC-SP14/NACENo.81）butlessthannear-whitemetalblastcleaning（SSPCSP10/NACENo.22）.

Commercialblastcleaningisusedwhentheobjectiveistoremoveallvisibleoil,grease,dust,dirt,millscale,rust,coating,oxides,corrosionproducts,andotherforeignmatter,leavingstainingorshadowsonnomorethan33percentofeachunitareaofsurface.

Thisjointstandardwasoriginallypreparedin1994andreaffirmedin2000bytheSSPC/NACETaskGroupAonSurfacePreparationbyAbrasiveBlastCleaning.ThisjointtaskgroupincludesmembersofboththeSSPCSurfacePreparationCommitteeandtheNACEUnitCommitteeT-6GonSurfacePreparation.Itwasreaffirmedin2006bytheSSPCSurfacePreparationCommitteeandNACESpecificTechnologyGroup（STG）04,ProtectiveCoatingsandLinings:

SurfacePreparation.

InSSPC/NACEstandards,shallandmustareusedtostatemandatoryrequirements.Shouldisusedtostatethatwhichisconsideredgoodandisrecommendedbutisnotabsolutelymandatory.Mayisusedtostatethatwhichisconsideredoptional.

Section1:

General

1.1Thisjointstandardcoverstherequirementsforcommercialblastcleaningofuncoatedorcoatedsteelsurfacesbytheuseofabrasives.Theserequirementsincludetheendconditionofthesurfaceandmaterialsandproceduresnecessarytoachieveandverifytheendcondition.

1.2ThemandatoryrequirementsaredescribedinSections1to9.Section10,“Comments”andAppendixA,“ExplanatoryNotes”arenotmandatoryrequirementsofthisstandard.

1.3InformationaboutthefunctionofcommercialblastcleaningisinParagraphA1ofAppendixA.

Section2:

Definitions

2.1CommercialBlastCleanedSurface:

Acommercialblastcleanedsurface,whenviewedwithoutmagnification,shallbefreeofallvisibleoil,grease,dust,dirt,millscale,rust,coating,oxides,corrosionproducts,andotherforeignmatter.Randomstainingshallbelimitedtonomorethan33percentofeachunitareaofsurface（approximately5,800mm2[9.0in.2]）（i.e.,asquare76mmx76mm[3.0in.x3.0in.]）andmayconsistoflightshadows,slightstreaks,orminordiscolorationscausedbystainsofrust,stainsofmillscale,orstainsofpreviouslyappliedcoating.

商业级和工业级喷砂清理的区别在于：

商业级喷砂清理要求清除各表面所有可见油、油脂、灰尘、污物、氧化皮、绣、涂料、氧化物、腐蚀产品及其他杂质，同时表面残留的着色不得超过装置表面积的33%；而工业级喷砂清理允许装置各表面残留不超过10%规定的氧化皮、涂层和锈迹，同时允许所有表面上保留污点。

本联合标准最初于1994年编制，并于2000年由关于表面喷砂清理的SSPC/NACE任务小组A重新确认。

该联合小组由SSPC表面处理委员会和关于表面处理的MACE小组委员会T-6G的成员组成。

本联合标准随后于2006年由SSPC表面处理委员会和NACE专业技术小组（STG）04-“保护涂料和衬里：
