MengMuTang,aprivateschoolinShanghai,ismodeledaftertheeducationalsystemofancientChinesehomeschools,whichfavoredrotememorizationandrecitationofclassicworks.ButthelocaleducationauthoritiesinShanghaihavedeclareditillegalaccordingtoareportin21stCentury.Shouldfamilyschoolingexist?

Inmyopinion,familyschoolingshouldbepermittedtoplayapositiveroleinthecurrenteducationalsysteminChina.Everyfamilyshouldbefreetochoosetheformofeducationthatbestsuitstheirchildren'sinterestsandnaturalgifts.AlthoughtheexistingeducationsysteminChinahasremarkablyimproved,itdoesnotfiteachchildperfectly.Sincefamilyschoolingprovidesameanstodevelopaperson'stalentsanduniqueinterest,MengMuTang,asaprivateschoolgearedtoaspecificgroupofchildren,shouldnotbebannedinhaste.Inviewofthecurrentdynamic,quality-mindededucationalreformsinChina,weshouldpermitfamilyschoolingtoenrichanddiversifyoureducationalsystem.

Ontheotherhand,homeschoolingshouldadaptitselftothemodernworld.Topreparechildrenforthefuture,itshouldequipthemwithknowledgeandinnovativepowersothattheycancopewiththedevelopmentofthemodernworld.Whiletappingchildren'sinnatetalentsonanindividualbasis,familyschoolingshouldneverneglecttheirall-rounddevelopment.MengMuTangmaynotbeaperfectprivateschool,butweshouldletitliveandhaveatrysothatfamilyschoolingmayeventuallybecomeanindispensablecomponentofourformaleducation.
