Thisclassisthefirstlessonfortheseniorhighschoolgradeonestudentsinthissemester.Thislessonismainlyonthefestivalsaroundtheworldwhichwillbepresentedthroughslideshow,pictures,etc.

Studentsinthisgradehavealreadylearnedenoughgrammarpointstobeabletounderstandthistext,forexample,attributiveclause;differenttenses.Asareadingclass,thisclasswillfocusonthefestivalsandcultureinsteadoflanguagepointsandgrammarrules.

4Abilityfoundation:

Thestudentsareactiveinindependentthinkingandgroupwork.Facingdifficulties,theyareabletoanalyzetheproblematfirst,andthentheymightturntoteachersforhelp.Inaddition,independentthinkingandgroupworkareoftenutilizedbystudentsinsolvingproblemsundertheguidanceoftheteacher.

Analysisoftheteachingcontents(教学内容分析):

1Thisisthefirstperiodofthisunit.Theteacherintendstohavetheashowtoreadthenewwordsandexpressionsinthewordlistandhasarrangedthepre-viewtasktoreadthetextandlookupthemeaningofthenewwordsandexpressions.Atthebeginningofthisclass,theteachercanleadinthetopicofthisunitbyshowingapictureofcalendarandane-mailandraisequestionstoarousestudents’attention.Warming-upisintendedtohavestudentsstartthinkingaboutthevarietyofeventsandfestivalsthatarecelebratedinChina,andconnectthemwithseasonsofyearandreasonofcelebrations.StudentscantakethisopportunitytorecallChina’sculturalfestivalsandevents.

ThereadingpassagetitledFESTIVALSAROUNDTHEWORLDbrieflydescribestheearliestkindsoffestivalswiththereasonsforthem,andthenfourdifferentkindsoffestivalsthatoccurinmostpartsoftheworld.Encoturagestudentstolookatthepicturesandtheheadingofeachsectiontoguesswhatthetextmightbeabout.Thenletthemskimforthegeneralideaforeachsection,andscanforfurtherunderstanding.Becausethispassageintroducesalotofusefulnewwordsandexpressionswhichareonlyusedforfestivals,inordernottoletstudentsfeelmuchdifficult,theteachershoulddealwithanylanguageproblemswhiletheyarereading.Afterreading,studentsarerequiredtodothematchexercisepreparedbytheteachertoseehowmuchtheyhaveunderstoodthereadingpassage.Theteachercanfirstletstudentsworkinpairsoringroupstofindtheanswercooperatively,andthenchecktheanswerwiththewholeclass.

Toconsolidatethecontentsofthereadingpassage,studentsarerequiredtoobservethepicturesandwatchthevideosoastofestivalsintheirownwordsintheclassactivity.Inordertoarousestudents’interest,theteacherisrecommendedtoholdacompetitionbetweengroupsifnecessary.Timepermitting,theteacherwillexplaintheusageandimportantpointsofthetext.Nextperiodwillfindthegrammarpointsinthisunitinwhichmodalverbsshallbeexplainedtoenablestudentshaveaquiteaclearunderstandingofit.

Thefourthperiodwillbetheconsolidationofstudents’comprehensiveability,suchuslistening,reading,speakingandwriting,whichwillgreatlyenablestudentstoimprovetheabilityofusingEnglish.

Thelastperiodwillturnitsattentiontogroupworkandinnovativeextracurricularactivities.Thewholeclasswillbemadeupofsevengroups,andeachgroupstandsforonecontinent.Forexample,thegrouprepresentingAsianeedstosearchtheinformationaboutthemaincountries’festival(whentocelebrate,wheretocelebrate,whytocelerbate,whotocelebrate,andhowtocelebrate)throughdifferentaccess.Insearchofinformation,studentsaresupposedtoworkcooperatively.Researchdone,eachgroupwillhaveapresentationoftheresearchandtrytomakethepresentationinnovativebynovelandinterestingway.
