Everyoneofuswantsahappylife,butdifferentpeoplehaveadifferentcriterionforit.WhenIbegintotalkaboutmyideaofhappylife,Ithinkfirstofacongenial1homelife,thenthenecessityofmaterialthings2,goodhealth,andthesatisfactoryjob.

First,thecongenialhomeleadstothesetting3ofahappylife.Onewillfeelhappyifallhisfamilymembersliveinharmony.Athome,onecangiveanotherincentivetowork4harderandgaingreatersuccess.Suchasettingisagreatsourceofencouragement,aswellasasounddefenseagainstlonelinessandtheharshnessandindifferenceoftheoutsideworld5.

Besides,materiallifecannotbeneglected.Moneymaybethe“rootofallevil”,butinthemodernworld,itisimpossibletolivehappilywithoutit.Lackofmoneybringshardship,hungeranduglinessintolife.Butaslongasweearnenoughtocoverallreasonableneeds,provideleisureactivities,andpayforemergenciesandholidays,wedonotneedtopaytoomuchattentiontomoney.

Thirdly,goodhealthisofgreatimportance.Healthypeopledonotrealizehowpricelessistheirpossessionuntiltheyfallill.Goodhealthisthekeytoallenjoymentandsuccess.Withoutgoodhealth,lifeisnotworthliving.Itslossmeansthateveryotherpleasureisaffected.Ahealthyman,thoughtherearesomeexceptions,isthemanwhofindslifemosthappy.

Nowadays,peopleingrowingnumbersaregettingtorealizetheimportanceofreading.Butwhenitcomestohowtoread,therehassprungupaheateddiscussion1astowhetherweshouldreadselectivelyorextensively.

Somepeopleareinfavoroftheideaofreadingselectively.Theybelievethatitisnothowmuchonereadsbutwhathereadsthatreallycounts.Theypointout,livinginanagewhenmuchtimehastobetakenupbyworkandotheractivities,peopleareunabletofindenoughtimetoreadextensivelyeveniftheyintendto.Theyholdthatsomebooksareharmful,suchaspornographicbooksandmagazinessoldatthestreetbookvendors.2Lackofintelligentdiscrimination3inthismattermaycultivateone’sbad,indecenttaste4tosuchadegreethathismindmightbecorrupted5.Therefore,thechoiceofbookscanneverbeoverlooked.

However,othersinsistonreadingextensively.Theyarguethatisthroughreadingextensivelythatpeoplecanobtainmostoftheirknowledge.Nowbranchesofknowledgedivergeintoeachother6ratherthanareisolatedfromeachother.Onlywhenonegoesbeyondhisownfieldandreadswidely,canhereallymakeremarkableachievementsinhisstudy.Inaddition,themostvaluablegiftsbestowed8bybooksareexperience,broadviewandwisdom.Thusamanwhoreadsextensivelylivemanyliveswhileamanwhodoesnotreadorreadonlyaselectednumberofbookswalksthisearthwithablindfold9.
