Havingjustfinishedhighschool.Iwasn'tsurewhatIwantedtostudyinhighereducation,soIdecidedtotakeagapyeartofigurethatout.

TheinternshipprogramIamfollowingfocusesonbigpredators(食肉动物).Ihavedecidedtofocusoncheetahs(猎豹)formyindividualproject,collectingdataonthetwocheetahsthatliveinRietspruit,oneofthereservesthatAfricanImpactdoesresearchin.Withbothcheetahshavingonlybeenreintroducedintotheareathisyear,thereisstillalotofdatathatcanbecollectedonthepair.Largepredatorreintroductionisacommonstrategyusedtoreturntheseanimalstotheirhistoricrange.Theproblemisthatthesuccessratesofthesereintroductionsareverylow,mainlybecauseoflackinresearchdoneonhowdifferentfactorsinfluencethereintroduction.

BothcheetahsarewearingaGPS-collarfromwhichIcandownloadalotofinformationincludingwherethecheetahhasbeen,whattheweatherwaslikeandhowfarthecheetahtravelled.Havingorganizedandcategorizedtheinformation,Ihavebeenabletocreatesomeveryinterestinggraphs.
