Introductiontothehistoryofmiddle-periodandmodernChina,focusingonthefivedynasties--Liao,Jin,Yuan,Ming,andQing--andthePeople'sRepublicwhenBeijingservedasthecapitalorasoneoffivecapitalcities.Emphasisonthelegacyofthepaststillvisibleintoday'sBeijing.Thecoursewilltakeadvantageofarcheologicalsites(BeijingManatZhoukoudian,theHan-dynastytombatFengbaotai,Fangshan),theForbiddenCity,andthecity'smuseums(theHistoryMuseumaswellassmallerones)tointroducethemajoreventsanddevelopmentsofChinesehistorytothestudents.Thiscoursewillalsoemphasizetheanalysisofprimarydocumentsintranslation.
