Itwasnearly10yearsagothatabrightSeptemberdaywasdarkenedbytheworstattackontheAmericanpeopleinourhistory.Theimagesof9/11aresearedintoournationalmemory--hijackedplanescuttingthroughacloudlessSeptembersky;theTwinTowerscollapsingtotheground;blacksmokebillowingupfromthePentagon;thewreckageofFlight93inShanksville,Pennsylvania,wheretheactionsofheroiccitizenssavedevenmoreheartbreakanddestruction.
Andyetweknowthattheworstimagesarethosethatwereunseentotheworld.Theemptyseatatthedinnertable.Childrenwhowereforcedtogrowupwithouttheirmotherortheirfather.Parentswhowouldneverknowthefeelingoftheirchild’sembrace.Nearly3,000citizenstakenfromus,leavingagapingholeinourhearts.
