Inameta-analysisof180studiesacrosssixcountriesthatinvolvedsome1,080participants-allofwhomhada“formaldiagnosisofamentaldisorder,includingdepressionandanxiety,”accordingtonewsreleaseonthefindings-researchersfoundthattheparticipants’mentalhealthimprovedwith“movement-basedyoga,”withthebenefits“beingincremental（递增的）withtheamountofyogatheypracticed,”theysaid.

Movement-basedyogawasdefinedbytheresearchersas“anyformofyogawhereparticipantsarephysicallyactiveatleast50percentofthetime,thatis,formsofyogathatemphasizeholdingposesandflowingthroughseriesofposes,”accordingtothenewsrelease.

“Asself-isolationcontinuesandpeoplefindthemselvesworkingfromhomeandunabletophysicallycatchupwiththeirfriendsandfamily,we’relikelytoseemorepeoplefeellonelyanddisconnected,”saidleadresearcherandUniversityofSouthAustraliaPh.D．candidateJacintaBrinsley,inastatement.“Exercisehasalwaysbeenagreatstrategyforpeoplestrugglingwiththesefeelingsasitboostsbothmoodandhealth.Butasgymsandexerciseclassesofallkindsarenowclosed—evenjoggingwithafriendisstronglydiscouraged—peoplearelookingforoptions,andthisiswhereyogacanhelp.”

Ourresearchshowsthatmovement-basedyogaimprovedsymptomsofdepression（orimprovedmentalhealth）forpeoplelivingwitharangeofmentalhealthconditions,includinganxiety,post-traumatic（创伤后）stressandmajordepression.“So,it’sverygoodnewsforpeoplestrugglingintimesofuncertainty,”Brinsleyadded.
