Mostgreatinventorsoftenmetwithmuchtroubleintheirwork,beforetheycouldsucceed.Theyhadtoovercomethousandsofdifficultieswhichwereputintheirway.Thefollowingisoneofsuchexamples.
GeorgeStephenson(1781-1848),afamousinventor,madethefirsttrainin1825,usingasteamengine.Whenhewasexperimentingwiththeengineonthetrain,hemetwithtroublesfromthegovernment,thenewspapersandthegentlemeninthecountry.Theysaidthatthenoiseandthesmokewouldkillcows,horsesandsheep,thattheenginewouldburstorthatthehotcoalsfromitwouldsetfiretotheirhouse.Peoplebelievedwhattheysaid.
GeorgeStephensontoldthepeoplethatthetraincouldgoonsmallrails,couldpullcarriagesfullofgoodsandpassengersandthattherewasnogreatdangertothem.Itwasaverydifficultmatterforhimtomakethembelieve.However,aftersometime,hewasabletodoit,andthefirsttrainthatwasdrivenbyStephensonhimselfprovedwhathehadsaid.Onthetraintherewasanewsteamengine.Itwasinventedbyhim,andwasprovedacompletesuccess.
