英语专业学生汉译英学习现状解析Word文档格式.docx

学语言要求能“听、说、读、写、译”,译排在最后,可见它对于证明外语学习能力的要求是最高的。

我们学习英语采用的文本基本上是英文,因此我们有很多机会练习英译汉,而且由于汉语是我们的母语,只要我们将文本里的生词意思查出来,再把句子结构搞清楚,都能够翻译得八九不离十。

然而,不难发现汉译英是更加困难的,即使对于高年级学生来说,要把一篇文章翻译出来通顺地翻译出来也是相当不易的。

随着全球化的发展,各国之间的联系日益紧密,对于专业性翻译人才的需求也日益增长,研究并探索出适合学生的汉译英学习方法,对于加强学生的专业竞争力是十分必要的。

本文从三个部分展开。

第一部分介绍英语专业本科生的汉译英学习现状和常见问题;

第二部分浅析造成汉译英难题的一些原因;

第三部分提出一些能够帮助学生更好地学习汉译英的建议。

通过本文的写作,笔者表达了对当前汉译英学习方法改进的期待,证明我们的汉译英学习是有方法可循,希望对英语专业的同学有所帮助。

Abstract

AsEnglishmajors,studentshavestudiedEnglishfornearly10years.Whenstudyalanguage,theyareaskedtolistening,speaking,reading,writingandtranslating.Translatingisinthelastplace,sothattheycanseehowimportanttranslationisintheprocessofaforeignlanguage-learning.EnglishmajorshavemanychancestodoEnglish-Chinesetranslation,becausemostoftheircoursebooksarewrittenbyEnglish.Moreover,asChineseistheirmothertongue,theywillnothavetoomanydifficultiestodotheEnglish-Chinesetranslationaftertheyconsultthenewwordsinthedictionaryandmakeclearofthesentencestructure.Onthecontrary,itiseasytofindthatChinese-EnglishtranslationissodifficultforEnglishmajorsthatevenseniorscouldnotreachthelevelthattheteachingprogramdemands.

Withtheglobalization,theconnectionsamongcountriesarecloser.Theneedofprofessionaltranslatorsisalsoincreasinggradually.ItisverynecessarytosearchthecurrentsituationandcommonproblemsstudentsmeetandfindoutsomepossiblewaysbenefittoChinese-Englishtranslationstudy.Thispaperincludesthreemainparts.ThefirstpatisgoingtoillustratethecurrentsituationandcommonproblemsofChinese-EnglishtranslationforEnglishmajors,thesecondpartisgoingtofindoutsomereasonstotheproblemsandthethirdpartistryingtogivesomesuggestionsonthestudyofChinese-EnglishtranslationforEnglishmajors.

Throughthispaper,thewriterwishestoseesomeimprovementintheChinese-Englishtranslationstudy,provingthattherearesomemeasurestostudybetter,andhopingthatEnglishmajorswillbenefitfromthispaper.

Introduction

Whatistranslation?

“Translationisthecommunicationofthemeaningofasource-languagetextbymeansofanequivalenttarget-languagetext.”1Asweallknow,translationistheintegrateduseoflanguage,andinordertobeatranslator,onemusthasagoodknowledgeatnotonlythesourcelanguage,butalsothetargetlanguage,sothatwecanseehowdifficulttotranslatewellis.Translationisalsocanbeseeneverywhereinourdailylife,suchasthesignboardofshops,theroadsignsandadvertisements.Becauseoftheglobalization,manyforeigncountriesdobusinessinChinaandmanyforeignersvisitChina.

ForEnglishmajors,studyingtranslationisverynecessary,becauseitisagoodwaytomeasurehowgoodyourlanguagecapabilityis.Totranslatewell,theyneedtochoosetherightwordwhichissuitableforthecontextbest,topayattentiontothegrammarincaseofmistakes,andtohandlesomecultureissuescarefullytomakepeoplewhoreaditunderstandthecontentsbetter.AsEnglishmajors,studentsdoattachimportancetotranslation,buttheywillnotlearntranslationsystematicallyuntiltheyareintheirfourthyearofcollege,whichmakestheacademichoursfortranslationcoursesverylimitandstudentscouldnotfinishlearningallthetheoriesinthecoursebooks.What’smore,sinceEnglishisnottheirmothertongueandtheyarenotlivinginthatlanguageenvironment,itwillbemuchmoredifficultforthemtotranslatematerialsfromChinesetoEnglishthanfromEnglishtoChinese.

Accordingtoapieceofrecentnews,TEM8(TestforEnglishMajorsBandEight)isgoingtoreform,andthenewtestpaperwillbeusedsincetheyear2016.Inthisreform,thetranslationtestonlyhastheChinese-Englishtranslation,whichusedtohavebothEnglish-ChinesetranslationandChinese-Englishtranslation.Thatistosay,Chinese-Englishtranslationtakesamoreimportantrolethanbefore,sothatstudentswillpaymoreattentiontoChinese-EnglishtranslationandtheymustpreparethemwithagoodknowledgeofChinese-Englishtranslationskills.

However,therearealotofproblemsanddifficultieswhenstudentsaretranslatematerialsformChinesetoEnglish.Tobeagoodtranslator,theyshouldaskthemselvessomequestions:

“Wherearewenow?

Whataretheimplementsinfrontofus?

Andhowcanwegofurther?

”Thesequestionsarealsothispapergoingtoanswer.

Thispaperhasthreepurposes.Tobeginwith,itwillillustratethecurrentsituationandcommonproblemsofChinese-EnglishtranslationforEnglishmajors,whichincludinghowthestudents’ChineseEnglishtranslationisnowadaysandwhataretheproblemsbotheringthem.Inaddition,itwillfindoutsomepossiblereasonstotheproblemssuchaswordschoosing,backgroundinformationoflanguage.Lastbutnotleast,itwilltrytogivesomesuggestionsonthestudyofChinese-EnglishtranslationforEnglishmajors.

ThewriterhopesthatthispaperwilldowelltoalltheEnglishmajorsandalltheEnglishfansthatarewillingtomakeanimprovementintheirChinese-Englishtranslation.

Ⅰ.CurrentSituationandCommonProblemsStudentsMeet

Firstofall,studentshavetofindtheanswertothequestion“wherewearenow?

”Inanotherwords,theyhavetoknowthecurrentsituationofstudents’studyofChinese-Englishtranslation.Andthen,theyhavetoknowwhataretheimplementsinfrontofthem,thatistosay,theyshouldknowtheirweakness.Onlywhentheyfindtheirweakpoints,cantheymakechangesaccordingly.

A.CurrentSituation

EnglishmajorswillhavetheChinese-Englishtranslationcoursewhentheyareseniors,butfewofthemknowwhydotheyhavethiscourseandwhatisthepurposeofthiscourse.So,themostimportantthingistofigureouttheStandardofChinese-Englishtranslationthatstudentsshouldhaveaccordingtotheteachingprogram,whichallowsstudentsknowtheirlimitations.Furthermore,theymaytakehandtomeasuretheirowntranslatingcapabilities.Whenstudentsstarttotranslate,theyusually,firstly,dealingthewords,thenthesentence,andlastly,theparagraphs.But,somewordshavedifferentmeaningsindifferentkindsoftext.Thatiswhyitisnecessaryweshouldlearntohandledifferentkindsoftext.

1.TheStandardofChinese-EnglishTranslationThatStudentsShouldHaveaccordingtoTeachingProgram

AccordingtotheChinese-Englishtranslationteachingprogram,therelatedcoursesareopenedattheseventhsemester,andafterthestudy,EnglishmajorsshouldimprovetheirpracticalabilitiesandtheoreticalcognitiontosatisfythestandardwhichEnglishteachingprogramofEnglishmajorsincollege.ThestandardisthatstudentsshouldbeabletotranslatethearticlesinthenewspapersormagazinesandtheEnglishliteraturefromEnglishtoChineseandviceversa.What’smore,thetranslationsshouldbeloyaltotheoriginalandbefluent.Thetranslatingspeedshouldbe250to300Englishwordsperhour.Asaresult,studentscanbecompetentatthefuturejobsuchasEnglishteachinginhighschoolorotherworkconcerningtranslation. 

2.Students’AbilityofWords,SentencesandParagraphsTranslation

WhenstudentstranslatethematerialfromChinesetoEnglish,theyusuallysearchthesuitablewordsintheirmindfirst.Fromtheperformanceofstudentsinthetranslationclass,itiseasytofindthatstudentsaretendtochoosethesamewordwhichissimpleandjustmeetsthebasicmeaning.Andwhenthey
