Over40yearsago,acountrymusicDJconvention(大会)washeldeveryyearinNashville,Tennessee.Manycountryperformersusedtoattendtheconventiontogivetheirperformances.FanswouldgotoNashvillehopingtoseetheirfavoriteperformers.Intheend,somanyfansbeganshowingupinNashvillethatafestivalnamedFanFairwasborn.

ThefirstFanFairwasheldinApril1972,inNashvilleforfourdays.Someofcountrymusic’sbiggeststarsattended.Therewereaboutfiftythousandfans.ThefirstFanFairwassosuccessfulthatplanningbeganalmostimmediatelyfor1973.ThedatewaschangedtoJune,whentheweatherwouldbebetter.OveronehundredthousandfansattendedthesecondFanFair.

EveryyearbroughtsomanyperformersandfanstoFanFairthat,in1982,itwasmovedtotheTennesseeStateFairgrounds.FanFairstayedatthefairgroundsforanothernineteenyears.

Therewasalwaystheunexpectedduringthefestival.In1974,formerBeatlePaulMcCartneyattended.In1992,morethansixhundredreportersfromEurope,Asia,andSouthAmericawenttocovertheappearanceofapopularstar,BillyRayCyrus,whohadintroducedanewcountrylinedance.In1996,GarthBrooks,whomadeasurpriseappearance,signedautographs(签名)for23hours.
