Thenon-gamingvolunteerswereputthrough50hoursofvideo-gametraining.Forsomethisinvolvedplayingfast-actionshoot-em-upgamessuchas"CallofDuty2"and"UnrealTournament",butothersweregivenaslow-movinglife-strategygame,"TheSims2".Theresearchersfoundthatthosetrainedwithactiongamesraisedtheirperformancetotheleveloftheexperiencedgarners.Moreover,theyweremoreefficientintheiruseofvisualorauditoryevidencethanthoseplayingwiththeSims.

Theresearchersconcludethatfastactionvideo-gamesplayersdevelopanenhancedsensitivitytowhatisgoingonaroundthemandthatthismayhelpwithactivitiessuchasmultitasking,driving,readingsmallprint,navigationandkeepingtrackoffriendsorchildreninacrowd.Thepreciseneuralmechanismforthiseffect,however,isstillunknown.
